The company says it combines continuous photon-counting imaging across a 256 × 256-pixel array with lower-rate, time-stamped events on a 64 × 64 macropixel grid, with picosecond-resolution timing. Those are company-reported specifications; the announcement does not provide independent test results or a like-for-like comparison with other sensors.
What Litavis is—and what “first” means here
SPADs detect individual photons, making them useful in applications where light is scarce or the arrival time of light matters. Litavis is designed to combine that photon detection with digital processing in the sensor itself. Singular Photonics calls it the “world’s first” sensor of this kind in its launch materials; that is the company’s description, not an independently established industry finding.

The company’s central claim is about where processing happens: computation is integrated at the pixel array rather than requiring all photon-event data to be transferred off-chip for external processing. Singular Photonics says this can reduce raw-data transfer and support lower latency, power use, and system complexity. The launch materials do not quantify those benefits for Litavis or provide independent comparative measurements.
Reported specifications at a glance
| Capability | What Singular Photonics reports |
|---|---|
| Photon-counting imaging | Continuous imaging at 256 × 256 pixels, including in low-light conditions |
| Time-stamped photon events | Generated in parallel at a lower rate on a 64 × 64 macropixel grid |
| Timing | Picosecond-resolution timing, as described by the company |
| Processing and modes | Digital photon processing in-pixel and on-chip; multi-event timing, in-pixel histogramming, programmable time gating, and simultaneous intensity, timing, and histogramming modes |
| Sensor package depiction | The product page depicts a 3.5 mm × 3.5 mm BSI 3D-stacked SPAD sensor |
The 256 × 256 imaging array and 64 × 64 timing grid describe different outputs, not interchangeable resolutions: the timing events are reported on a coarser macropixel grid. The product-page depiction does not establish unlisted electrical, optical, frame-rate, yield, or system-integration specifications.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Configurable timing and detection modes
Singular Photonics lists several configurations intended to let users adapt sensor behavior in software. The company describes multiple time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC) and high-throughput time-to-digital converter (TDC) configurations, each with internal or external clock options. It also lists high-dynamic-range photon counting with selectable resolution, windowed detection, coincidence-based detection, and combined timestamping and imaging.
These are listed capabilities, not a substitute for a system-level specification. The public launch details do not state the timing accuracy under particular operating conditions, event throughput, clock limits, or the constraints that apply when multiple modes run together. Engineers evaluating a design will need the datasheet and application-specific confirmation for those details.

Announcement, orders, and availability
Singular Photonics announced Litavis on September 10, 2026, and said it planned to demonstrate the sensor at SPIE Sensors + Imaging in Edinburgh and present it at VISION in Stuttgart. Those were launch-period plans, not confirmation of a current demonstration schedule.
The company also said it had received “significant pre-order volumes” from companies and institutions around the world. It did not name customers or provide an order count or value, so the statement cannot establish how many units have been ordered or whether those orders have shipped.
