If SingleFile seems stuck saving a large webpage, first wait until the source page has fully loaded. If saving remains unusually slow, try the project’s troubleshooting steps in order: test in a private window, reset SingleFile’s options, restart the browser, then temporarily disable other extensions to check for a conflict. For a save that does finish but takes too long, adjust the options that reduce page size—those settings can add processing time.
First, tell a slow save from a failed save
SingleFile saves a complete webpage into one HTML file. Its README advises waiting until the page is fully loaded before starting. On a long or dynamic page, that does not guarantee every lazy-loaded item is present, so check that the content you need has appeared before capturing.

The official documentation gives no universal maximum page size, memory threshold, or time limit for deciding that a save is hung. If processing appears to be continuing, allow it to finish if practical. To stop it, click the SingleFile button again; the documentation does not promise that cancellation produces a usable partial archive.
Follow the official troubleshooting sequence
- Try a private or incognito window. This is the project’s first isolation step. If your browser requires it, enable SingleFile for private browsing before testing.
- Reset SingleFile options if the private-window test does not help, then retry. A reset may affect customized settings; the documentation does not say which settings are retained.
- Restart the browser if the problem continues after the reset.
- Temporarily disable other extensions if saving still fails. Retry, then re-enable extensions. If the problem disappears, identify the conflicting extension and report the issue with a short description of how to reproduce it.
This sequence isolates private-mode, configuration, browser-session, and extension-conflict causes. The project does not identify a particular extension as the cause of large-page failures.

Reduce processing for a slow but successful save
SingleFile’s FAQ says its defaults favor smaller saved pages, which can make saving considerably slower and use more CPU. Try the documented performance options under SingleFile’s options:
- HTML content > remove hidden elements: turn this off to test whether processing takes less time.
- Stylesheets > remove unused styles: turn this off to test whether stylesheet processing is a bottleneck.
If those changes are not enough, you can also test turning off HTML content > remove frames or Images > save deferred images. These are fidelity trade-offs: the FAQ warns that images or frames may be missing when those options are disabled. The documentation does not quantify any speed improvement, so compare the saved result with the page rather than assuming it is complete.

- Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)

Check Chrome and Firefox only when the symptom matches
The project documents several browser-specific quirks, but none is a general cure for a slow large-page capture.

- Unexpected UUID-like filename or download behavior: the known-issues page suggests disabling Misc > save pages in background. It also notes a possible conflict with another downloader extension.
- Saving a local file or missing the SingleFile infobar on one: enable Allow access to file URLs in the extension settings. This is for filesystem pages, not ordinary webpages that save slowly.
- Save As dialog does not appear as expected: SingleFile’s File name > open the “Save as” dialog to confirm the file name option works only when Chrome’s Ask where to save each file before downloading setting is disabled.
Firefox
- Filename conflict resolution: the documented setting does not work when set to prompt for a name.
- Content missing from an embedded frame: SingleFile may fail to save the contents of sandboxed iframes. This points to a frame limitation, not necessarily a stalled whole-page capture.
Report a reproducible problem
If the issue persists through the isolation steps, report it through the SingleFile project’s issue tracker with a concise reproduction description. Include the browser, what you clicked, what happened, and whether the same page behaves differently in a private window or with other extensions disabled. Avoid including private page content or credentials.
