To keep an embedded video player in a SingleFile archive, leave frame and iframe removal off. If the player still does not appear correctly, the SingleFile-MV3 FAQ recommends allowing scripts and suggests preserving hidden elements, unused styles, and the raw page HTML. These settings can preserve the player and page structure; they do not guarantee that the video file itself is saved or will play offline.
What SingleFile can—and cannot—save
SingleFile is a browser extension that saves a web page as a single HTML file. With an embedded video, there are three different outcomes to distinguish:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- The saved page retains the player or its iframe.
- The player retains enough markup, scripts, and other resources to appear or behave on the saved page.
- The actual video media is stored locally and plays without an internet connection.
The first two outcomes depend on what the page and player require. The SingleFile help and SingleFile-MV3 FAQ describe settings that can help preserve page structure and behavior, but do not promise that the video stream is included in the archive. A player visible in the saved file is not proof that its video is stored locally.
Settings to check before saving
Leave frame and iframe removal disabled
SingleFile’s help documentation says the remove-frames option removes all frame and iframe elements. If the video player is embedded in an iframe, enabling that option can remove the player from the saved page. Leave it off when preserving embedded content matters. Removing frames can reduce file size and processing time, but it may also remove the video player or other embedded page elements.

Allow scripts if the player is missing or incomplete
For pages containing videos, the SingleFile-MV3 FAQ recommends unchecking Network > blocked resources > scripts. A player may rely on scripts to render or initialize. This is a troubleshooting recommendation for video pages, not a guarantee that every player will work or that its media will be downloaded.
Preserve more of the page when necessary
The same FAQ suggests these optional settings when troubleshooting video-containing pages:

- Uncheck removal of hidden elements.
- Uncheck removal of unused styles.
- Check HTML content > save raw page.
Keeping more page content can help retain structures or resources that an optimized save omits. It can also change the saved output and may increase the amount of content retained. Try these as compatibility measures when the default save does not preserve the player, rather than treating them as required settings for every page.

Use deferred-content controls for content revealed later
If a page only reveals content after scrolling or waiting, SingleFile’s help describes simulated scrolling to trigger some sites’ scroll listeners and loading deferred content in frames before saving. These controls address when page content is loaded; they do not guarantee that a video stream is downloaded. Simulated scrolling can also cause unexpected scrolling problems, so test the result on the specific page.

A practical save-and-check workflow
- Open the page and identify how the player is embedded. If it appears inside a frame or iframe, do not enable the setting that removes frames.
- Save with your usual SingleFile settings first. If the player is absent or incomplete, use the video-page troubleshooting recommendations: allow scripts and, if needed, preserve hidden elements, unused styles, and raw page HTML. Exact labels cited here come from the SingleFile-MV3 FAQ and may differ in other browser editions or releases.
- Consider deferred content only when relevant. If the page reveals content after scrolling or waiting, try the relevant deferred-content controls and check for unexpected scrolling.
- Open the saved HTML file and inspect it. SingleFile’s help documents an option to open the saved page in a new tab. Check whether the player appears, then test whether the video actually plays. A visible player may still depend on an online source.
- If you need offline video, verify the media itself. Do not rely on the HTML archive as an offline video copy unless playback succeeds without a network connection. The cited SingleFile documentation does not establish that the video stream is saved locally.
Choosing between preservation and a smaller archive
| Choice | What it can help with | Trade-off or limit |
|---|---|---|
| Remove frames and iframes | Smaller saved file and less processing, according to SingleFile help. | Removes frame and iframe elements, which can remove an embedded player. |
| Allow scripts; preserve hidden elements, unused styles, or raw page HTML | Compatibility troubleshooting when a video-containing page or player is missing parts. | These are FAQ recommendations, not guarantees that the player or media will work offline. |
| Load deferred content before saving | May capture content revealed by scrolling or frame loading. | Does not establish that the video stream is downloaded; simulated scrolling can cause unexpected scrolling problems. |
Troubleshooting common results
The saved page has no player
Check whether frame or iframe removal was enabled. If so, turn it off and save again. If the player still does not appear, try the SingleFile-MV3 FAQ’s video-page guidance to allow scripts, then consider preserving hidden elements, unused styles, and raw page HTML.
The player appears, but playback fails
The archive may retain the player’s page structure without containing the video stream. Test while online and offline to distinguish a retained player from locally saved media. SingleFile’s cited documentation does not promise offline playback.

Content appears only after scrolling or waiting
Try the deferred-content controls described in SingleFile help. Simulated scrolling may trigger some page listeners, but can also cause unexpected scrolling problems. Reopen the output and confirm the relevant content was captured.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe saved file is larger or takes longer to create
Preserving frames and more page resources can retain more content than removing frames or unused elements. If file size or processing time matters more than the embedded player, removing frames may help—but it can remove the player too. Choose based on whether the archive must retain the embed.
