Do you need to play Silent Hill 2 before Townfall?
No required order is stated in the KONAMI material reviewed. The games have different protagonists and premises: Townfall follows Simon Ordell on the remote Scottish island of St. Amelia, while the Silent Hill 2 remake follows James Sunderland as he explores the town he once visited with his late wife, Mary. That makes either a reasonable starting point, but it is not proof that the stories have no connection.

Choose Townfall first if you want first-person horror
KONAMI describes Townfall as the series’ first full-length game presented entirely from a first-person perspective. Simon arrives at St. Amelia and is called back to “put things right.” Its described play includes hiding from threats, combat and puzzles closely tied to the story; Simon also uses a CRTV pocket television.

Choose the Silent Hill 2 remake first if you want James Sunderland’s story
The remake centers on James Sunderland’s search in Silent Hill, a town he and Mary used to visit. KONAMI says it introduces an over-the-shoulder view and updates the original with expanded explorable areas, revamped combat and added cut-scenes. It launched October 8, 2024, for PS5 and PC via Steam, according to the publisher’s update.

What to know about physical editions
KONAMI’s June 2, 2026 U.S. announcement says Townfall’s physical version is available only for PS5. It describes the Deluxe Edition extras—digital artbook, soundtrack and an alternate outfit—as digital content, not items included in a physical box.
