Choose Cosmic Invasion for a focused brawler
Cosmic Invasion is the straightforward pick when “beat ’em up” is the deciding phrase. Its official description positions it as a tag-team brawler, with character abilities designed to encourage team-ups. Nintendo’s listing adds local and online co-op for Switch players.

Dotemu’s launch announcement named PC, Switch, Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series S|X. It also listed a $29.99 launch price and inclusion with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at launch; those are launch-era details, not guarantees of today’s price or subscription catalog. For physical buyers, Dotemu later announced Standard and Deluxe editions for Switch, Switch 2, and PS5. Check regional listings for current availability and what each edition contains.

Ultimate Alliance suits players whose main draw is putting a superhero team together and taking it through an epic quest, rather than playing a side-scrolling brawler. Xbox’s official description emphasizes building a team and controlling its heroes. Activision’s action/RPG description applies specifically to Ultimate Alliance 2, so it is better understood as context for the series than as a definitive label for the first game.

Access is the practical catch. Game Informer reported in July 2018 that the 2016 digital re-releases of both games had been delisted, while noting that existing owners could continue playing. That report does not prove the games are unavailable everywhere today, nor does an old product page prove a new digital purchase is currently possible. Check the store for your platform and region, and your library if you owned a copy previously.
Which one should you play?
- Pick Cosmic Invasion for the clearly defined side-scrolling beat ’em up, tag-team play, and documented co-op options on Switch.
- Pick Ultimate Alliance if assembling a Marvel team for an action-adventure is the bigger attraction and you can access the edition you want.
- If buying now matters most, Cosmic Invasion has a clearer documented purchase path, including announced physical editions. Confirm current stock and digital availability where you live.
What the player milestone means
In a DLC announcement, Dotemu said Cosmic Invasion had been played by more than 1.5 million players at that time. That is a publisher-reported player milestone, not a number of copies sold.
