You can register a .si domain as a natural person or a legal entity through a registrar. The registry’s published terms do not state a Slovenian citizenship or residency requirement. You must provide accurate contact details and verify at least one contact method; identity or address documents may be requested if a registrar’s risk-based checks require them. Registration periods run from one to five years, and an expired domain enters quarantine.
Who can register a .si domain?
The .si registry’s General Terms define a domain holder as a natural or legal person. Applications are submitted to the registry through a registrar, not directly by the holder. The terms do not state a specific nationality or Slovenian-residency threshold, so this should not be read as a broader guarantee about every registrar’s procedures or other applicable requirements. The current terms are published as effective from 15 November 2024: Register.si General Terms and Conditions.

What information and documents do you need?
Contact details are required
Provide complete, accurate, and current holder information and keep it current throughout the registration period. Register.si’s data policy lists the holder’s name or legal-entity name, postal or contact address, email address, telephone number, and certain managing-contact fields. The holder must maintain a valid email address they can access. See the Register.si personal data protection policy.
At least one contact method must be verified
At registration and each renewal, the registrar verifies at least one contact method—email or telephone—for correct format and operational validity. Email verification may use a confirmation message or another appropriate method; telephone verification checks that the number is properly formatted and functions.

Identity documents are not a universal upload requirement
A registrar may perform additional identity/name or postal-address checks based on its risk analysis or a Registry request concerning a particular domain. Depending on the check, it may request copies of identity documents, confirm a company through a business register, or use a bank-transfer process that relies on bank verification. These are possible risk-based checks, not documents the registry says every applicant must submit.
If verification cannot be completed
If contact verification fails, the registrar sets a deadline to complete it, which cannot exceed 21 days. If required identity or address verification remains unresolved after the first request, an additional deadline may be set, also no longer than 21 days. Continued failure can lead to deactivation or deletion under the terms.
How to register a .si domain
- Choose a registrar. Submit the application through a registrar. The registry says complete applications are processed automatically in the order received, on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration occurs when the requirements are met and the registry receives payment from the registrar.
- Check the name. The name must not already be registered or reserved. It must be 2–63 characters long; it cannot begin or end with a hyphen, and two consecutive hyphens are not allowed in the third and fourth positions except for permitted ACE-format internationalized domain names. Permitted characters include Latin letters, digits, hyphens, and specified IDN characters. Some names are reserved, including 113.si, 112.si, si.si, and rs.si. See the General Terms and Conditions for the registry’s rules.
- Submit holder and contact details. Give the registrar accurate information and ensure you can access the email address or telephone number used for verification.
- Complete verification requests. Verify at least one contact method and respond promptly if the registrar requests additional risk-based checks.
- Select a registration term and pay through the registrar. Available terms are one, two, three, four, or five years. The registry does not set a universal retail price in the cited terms; check the registrar’s current fees and conditions.
How long does a .si registration last, and how do you renew it?
A registration runs from its registration date to the corresponding date in the selected year. You can register or renew for one to five years. Registrars are responsible for notifying holders about expiry, but keep track of the date yourself and follow your registrar’s renewal process. At renewal, the registrar must again verify at least one contact method.

If no renewal request reaches the registry, the domain enters quarantine on its expiry date. Register.si’s public renewal guidance says a holder may request renewal before the end of a 30-day quarantine period. Because the registry’s public guidance and the General Terms describe these details differently—the terms establish quarantine on expiry, while the public page gives the 30-day renewal window—confirm the deadline and process with your registrar as soon as possible. See Register.si’s FAQ.

Can you cancel a newly registered .si domain?
Register.si allows cancellation within 16 days of registration only while the domain remains inactive and has WHOIS status “inactive” and RGP status “Add Period.” Submitting nameserver records to the registry’s activation systems counts as activation, after which this return option does not apply. This conditional cancellation rule is separate from renewal or expiry. Details are on the Register.si FAQ.
