1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor employees, contractors, or partners who sign in through Ping, the documented route into Google Cloud IAM is Workforce Identity Federation. Google provides setup guides for PingFederate and PingOne Advanced Identity Cloud (AIC): configure a SAML identity provider, create a workforce identity pool and provider in Google Cloud, map the user and group claims you need, then grant IAM access to the appropriate federated principals. This does not require synchronizing those users into Google-managed accounts.
“Ping Identity agents” can also mean software agents or workloads. Those are a different identity problem: Google documents Workload Identity Federation for workloads, not as the Ping-specific workforce sign-in setup described here. The Google and Ping guides cited below do not establish a direct integration from Ping Identity agents to Google-managed agent identities.

Choose the identity model before configuring Ping
First determine who or what needs access. The three models below are not interchangeable; selecting the wrong one can lead to configuring a user sign-in flow for software, or expecting federated users to have Google-managed accounts.
| Model | Use it for | Google account and access model | Ping-specific setup documented |
|---|---|---|---|
| Workforce Identity Federation | Employees, contractors, partners, and other workforce users. (Google Cloud, “Workforce Identity Federation”) | Users authenticate with an external identity provider; they do not need synchronized Google user accounts. IAM can use mapped attributes and groups. (Google Cloud, “Workforce Identity Federation”) | Yes: Google Cloud has guides for PingFederate and PingOne AIC. (Google Cloud, “Configure Workforce Identity Federation with PingFederate” and “Configure Workforce Identity Federation with PingOne AIC”) |
| Cloud Identity or Google Workspace federation | Users who need corresponding Google-managed accounts. (Google Cloud, “Identities for users”) | Uses managed accounts, typically with matching email addresses; account synchronization may be part of the design. (Google Cloud, “Identities for users”) | Not established by the Ping-specific guides cited here. |
| Workload Identity Federation | Software workloads running outside Google Cloud. (Google Cloud, “Workload Identity Federation”) | Workload principals can receive IAM roles directly or access resources by impersonating a service account. This is not a user-account model. (Google Cloud, “Workload Identity Federation”) | No Ping-specific workload setup is established by the guides cited here. |
If users only need IAM access to Google Cloud resources, workforce federation is the relevant Ping-specific route. If they need Google-managed user accounts or services tied to those accounts, assess Cloud Identity or Google Workspace federation and synchronization separately.

Check prerequisites and permissions
Before building the connection, confirm that you can administer the Google Cloud organization and the Ping environment. Google’s PingOne AIC guide calls for a Google Cloud organization, the Google Cloud CLI installed and initialized, and signed SAML authentication information. Google’s general workforce-federation guide also identifies the IAM and Resource Manager APIs as prerequisites and documents the roles/iam.workforcePoolAdmin role for configuring workforce pools.
- Confirm the current API and role requirements in Google Cloud’s live “Configure Workforce Identity Federation” documentation; administrative requirements can change.
- Decide which Ping attributes are actually required for sign-in and authorization, and identify a stable, unique user identifier for the SAML subject.
- Obtain the signed SAML response or metadata required by the selected setup. Google requires signed SAML responses or OIDC JWTs for sign-in.
Configure PingFederate or PingOne AIC
PingFederate
Google’s PingFederate guide configures a SAML 2.0 service-provider connection for Google Cloud Workforce Identity Federation. The guide’s sequence includes setting the partner entity ID to the workforce provider resource name, enabling SP-initiated SSO, defining an attribute contract, setting the assertion consumer service URL, assigning a unique value to SAML_SUBJECT, and signing the response.

The guide’s example maps PingOne datastore attributes as follows: email to email, firstName to name.given, and groups to memberOfGroupIDs. Treat these as examples, not universal Ping field names: match the contract to the attributes your Ping deployment actually emits and verify the current Ping interface.
PingOne Advanced Identity Cloud
Use Google’s dedicated “Configure Workforce Identity Federation with PingOne AIC” guide to configure the application and export its SAML metadata. Google says the metadata should include the entity ID, single sign-on URL, and a public key for signing. The exported metadata supplies the provider information Google Cloud needs; confirm that its values correspond to the Ping application you intend to use.

Create the Google Cloud workforce pool and provider
Google Cloud’s model has two main objects: a workforce identity pool, created at the organization level, and a provider inside that pool. The provider describes the identity provider connection and holds settings such as the SAML protocol, attribute mappings, and any conditions.
- Create a workforce identity pool. Use the organization that will own the federation configuration. Choose a pool ID that is unique across Google Cloud workforce identity pools.
- Create a SAML provider in the pool. Use the PingFederate configuration or PingOne AIC metadata, as applicable, and configure the required attribute mappings.
- Review the mapping and provider conditions. Map only the claims needed for identifying users and making authorization decisions. Check the current Google Cloud reference for exact CLI flags and syntax: its documented CLI flow uses
gcloud iam workforce-pools createandgcloud iam workforce-pools providers create-saml, but command interfaces may change.
Do not treat a successful provider creation as proof that authorization is configured. The identity provider establishes how users authenticate; IAM bindings determine what those users can access.

Map claims and grant least-privilege IAM access
Use a stable unique identifier for the SAML subject so a user’s identity does not depend on a changeable display value. Map group claims only when they are needed for authorization, and verify that the names and values Google Cloud receives match the Ping attributes you configured.
Google’s PingFederate guide demonstrates granting a project role to a mapped group through a workforce-pool principalSet. Apply that pattern at the narrowest resource scope and with a role that matches the actual job. The guide’s sample Storage Admin role is an example, not a production recommendation. Review any IAM conditions and group membership rules before granting access.

Test sign-in and troubleshoot access separately
Follow the federated console or CLI sign-in flow in the guide for your selected Ping setup. Test both authentication and authorization: a successful sign-in confirms that the federation path works, but not that the user received the intended claims or IAM permissions.
- Sign in with a test user who should have access and confirm the Ping authentication completes.
- Check that the expected subject and mapped attributes, especially group claims, are being used by the provider configuration.
- Verify the user’s effective permissions at the intended Google Cloud resource, including any IAM conditions.
- Test a user who should not have access to confirm that the binding does not grant unintended permissions.
Google notes that detailed workforce identity audit logging uses Cloud Logging and can help diagnose provider configuration. Check current Cloud Logging pricing before enabling detailed logging, and consult Google Cloud’s troubleshooting guidance if the observed claims or access differ from what you configured.
What “Ping Identity agents” does—and does not—mean here
The official Ping-specific Google Cloud guides cover PingFederate and PingOne AIC acting as SAML identity providers for workforce users. Google documents workload federation as a separate model for external software workloads, with direct IAM access or service-account impersonation as access patterns. The cited guides do not describe a direct connection from a Ping Identity agent product to Google-managed agent identities. If “agent” refers to a specific Ping product or a Google-managed agent identity, confirm that exact product-to-product integration in documentation for those products rather than assuming the workforce SAML setup provides it.
