Shutter Story is an upcoming psychological horror investigation game from Frostwood Interactive. You examine a friend’s family photos and videos on a fictional computer tool, then classify what you find. The game’s Steam description says mistakes affect the fate of Eli and his family. Steam currently lists the full game for Q1 2027; its demo is a separate release.
What is Shutter Story?
Shutter Story is a psychological horror game built around investigating suspected paranormal activity. Eli, a friend of the player character, believes something is wrong with his family. The player searches family photographs and home videos for evidence, with the story placing the consequences of those judgments on Eli and his family. Steam’s game listing describes the player’s decisions as consequential; it does not establish the specific outcomes or number of endings.

The game alternates between close investigation at a computer and first-person exploration of Eli’s house. Frostwood Interactive names Her Story, Mouthwashing, Home Safety Hotline, and Pulse (2001) as inspirations. Those are developer-stated references, not a guarantee that the games share mechanics or tone in every respect. Frostwood Interactive’s game page describes the structure and inspirations.
How does the photo investigation work?
Investigations take place through the fictional SpectralAware 2.1 interface. The player adjusts settings such as exposure, contrast, noise, and filters to inspect images and video, then classifies the material. This is a gameplay mechanic, not a real photo-editing application or camera that players need to obtain.

The central tension is interpretive: the player must decide what the material shows, while the game says mistakes carry consequences for Eli and his family. Available descriptions establish that choices matter, but do not specify all possible classifications or exactly how each mistake changes the story. When does Shutter Story come out?
Steam currently lists the full game as not yet available, with a Q1 2027 release window. That is the current store-listed window, not a guaranteed launch date. Frostwood Interactive’s press kit still says “TBA,” so its release entry appears older than Steam’s listing. Steam’s full-game page is the newer availability source; the developer press kit shows the conflicting TBA entry.

Is there a Shutter Story demo?
Yes. Steam lists a separate Shutter Story Demo with a release date of October 23, 2025. That date applies to the demo, not the planned full game. The demo’s Steam page may display changing user-review totals and ratings, which are not fixed measures of the game. See the Shutter Story Demo on Steam.
