Usually, no. Samsung does not advise Galaxy owners to discard every included cable. Keep using the cable if it is compatible with your phone and charger and is in good condition. Replace it if it is damaged, or choose a cable with a different rating when your exact phone-and-charger combination requires one. Samsung says specifications vary by model, release period and region, so check your device’s requirements before buying.
What cable comes with a Samsung phone?
There is no single specification that safely describes every cable bundled with every Galaxy phone. Samsung Korea’s support page says that phones released from 2022 generally came with a USB Type-C-to-USB Type-C cable rated for up to 3A, supporting up to 25W charging and USB 2.0 data transfer. The page lists a 1-metre length and warns that specifications can vary by region and release timing. These details apply to the group described on that Korean page, not automatically to every Galaxy model sold worldwide. Samsung Korea’s included-cable specifications.

Samsung UK says the correct cable is normally included and directs customers to model-specific guidance when they need a replacement. Samsung also says chargers and headphones are no longer included with new phones in the UK; that packaging statement should not be assumed to describe every market or every product generation. When should you replace the cable?
Replace the cable if it is visibly damaged, has a loose connector, or fails to charge reliably. If the cable looks sound but charging is slow, check the full charging setup before buying a replacement: the phone, adapter, charging protocol and cable all need to work together. Samsung recommends compatible chargers and cables designed for the specific Galaxy device. Samsung US troubleshooting for a Galaxy device that is not fast charging.

Do you need a 5A cable for 45W charging?
Sometimes, but not universally. Samsung Korea says certain 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0 arrangements require a 45W USB PD charger and a cable supporting up to 5A. That is a model-and-charger-specific requirement, not a reason to replace every supplied 3A cable. Samsung’s newer Korean guidance says Galaxy S25 and later models can support Super Fast Charging 2.0 with the included 3A cable. Check the instructions for your exact phone and adapter before choosing a cable. Samsung Korea’s cable specification guidance and Samsung Korea’s Super Fast Charging guidance.
A higher current rating alone does not make a phone charge faster. The phone and adapter must support the same charging mode, and the cable must meet that setup’s requirements.

Will a 5A cable make your Galaxy charge faster?
Not by itself. The phone determines which charging modes it supports, and the adapter must provide a compatible output. A 5A cable matters only when the supported phone-and-adapter combination calls for it; using one with equipment that does not support a faster mode does not create that capability.
Samsung’s Galaxy S23 launch announcement illustrates why model-specific claims matter: Samsung said the S23 could reach up to 50% charge in around 30 minutes with a 25W adapter and 3A USB-C cable, while the S23+ could reach up to 65% in around 30 minutes with a 45W adapter and 5A USB-C cable. These were Samsung’s claims for those models under its stated test conditions, not a general guarantee for other Galaxy phones. Samsung’s Galaxy S23 launch announcement.

What to check before buying a replacement
Look for an explicit cable rating and compatibility with your exact charging setup. A headline wattage claim alone does not establish that a cable supports Samsung’s required charging mode.
- Current rating: Check whether your device and adapter require a 3A or 5A cable.
- Charging compatibility: Match the cable to the Galaxy model’s charging mode and the adapter’s required USB PD/PPS capabilities.
- Connector: Confirm that both ends match the phone and adapter, typically USB-C to USB-C for the setup described by Samsung Korea.
- Data needs: Samsung lists the cited included cable as USB 2.0. USB-C connectors alone do not indicate faster data transfer.
Samsung’s model-specific support information is the safest starting point if you are unsure which cable to choose. Cable specifications and bundled accessories can differ across models and markets.
