What is new about the Momentum True Wireless 5?
Sennheiser announced the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 on August 20, 2026 as a top-to-bottom redesign and its current flagship true-wireless model. The official US price is $299.95. The earbuds add Bluetooth 6.0, aptX Lossless, a 24-bit/96 kHz high-resolution mode, Dolby Atmos head tracking, adaptive hybrid ANC, automatic anti-wind processing, AI-powered voice isolation and multipoint connectivity.

The headline change is serviceability. Both earbud batteries and the charging-case battery are intended to be replaced by the owner instead of treating the cells as permanently sealed components.

Sennheiser’s support documentation explicitly says the earbuds and charging case have rechargeable batteries that can be replaced by end users. The procedure uses a standard Phillips PH000 screwdriver.

Sennheiser says the BA 501 and BA 502 will be available in the EU and selected countries. Availability, local pricing and installation guidance can vary by market, so check the support information for your region before opening a unit. Replaceable cells extend the product’s potential service life, but they do not make the earbuds waterproof, indestructible or risk-free to disassemble.
Battery life and charging
The manufacturer rates each earbud for up to 12 hours of playback and the Qi-enabled case for up to 40 hours total. These are manufacturer figures, not independent laboratory measurements. Tom’s Guide lists the same 12-hour-per-earbud and 40-hour-total figures with ANC turned off.

Actual runtime will change with ANC, high-resolution playback, head tracking, call time, volume and temperature. The replaceable-cell design matters most after normal battery aging, when fitting a BA 501 or BA 502 can be more practical than replacing the entire earbud set.
Sound quality and immersive audio
Tom’s Guide’s September 3, 2026 hands-on review found the sound “awesome,” with particularly strong results using aptX Lossless and Dolby Atmos head tracking. The review’s specification table lists 7 mm proprietary drivers and a 20 Hz–20 kHz frequency response.

Dolby Atmos head tracking is designed to keep a spatial mix anchored as you move your head, while the 24-bit/96 kHz mode targets higher-resolution playback when the source device and content support it. Bluetooth 6.0 and aptX Lossless are useful advantages for compatible Android phones and other transmitters; devices without those capabilities will use an available Bluetooth codec instead.
ANC, transparency and wind handling
Adaptive hybrid ANC handles most everyday environmental noise, and the earbuds can automatically apply an anti-wind mode. Tom’s Guide reported that the system reduced ordinary surroundings effectively but allowed some low-frequency rumble and high-frequency sounds through. It specifically judged the noise cancellation below the strongest performance available from Bose’s QC Ultra Gen 2.

Transparency controls are available in Sennheiser’s Smart Control Plus app. The app also provides a fit test, personalized EQ, head tracking and sound zones, allowing different listening behavior in saved locations or situations.
Call quality and microphones
Sennheiser uses a four-microphone array, six microphones overall and two bone-conduction voice accelerometers. Its AI speech-extraction processing is intended to separate your voice from surrounding noise.

In Tom’s Guide’s testing, the reviewer’s voice sounded clear without metallic coloration or echo. A loud city-noise track was not audible to the other caller. That is strong evidence for commuting and outdoor calls, although results will still depend on wind, phone compatibility and how the earbuds fit your ears.
Fit, durability and everyday comfort
The bean-shaped earbuds have a snug fit that Tom’s Guide expects to suit normal-to-large ears. People with very small ears may have difficulty getting a comfortable seal. A reliable seal affects both bass response and ANC, so use the app’s fit test and try the supplied tip sizes before judging sound or isolation.
The earbuds carry an IP54 dust and weather-protection rating. That rating applies to the earbuds, not automatically to the charging case, and it is not a license for submersion. Wipe away moisture and follow Sennheiser’s care guidance after exercise or rain.

Is it worth $299.95?
The value depends on what you want from premium earbuds. Sound quality, aptX Lossless, Dolby Atmos head tracking, clear calls and a full control app justify the high-end positioning. The ability to replace both earbud cells and the case cell is a meaningful ownership advantage over sealed designs, especially if you plan to keep the earbuds for several years.
There are clear trade-offs. ANC does not lead the category, very small ears may not suit the fit, and the headline battery figures are ratings rather than independent test results. At launch, Tom’s Guide listed the earbuds at $299 in the US and £249 in the UK; verify live regional pricing and stock before buying.
