The CX True Wireless is worth considering if ANC is not a requirement and its listed battery estimate suits you. Which one should you buy?
Choose MOMENTUM True Wireless 4 if you want ANC and broader device support
MTW4 is the clearer choice if you commute, work in noisy places, or otherwise want active noise reduction. Its hybrid ANC is a listed feature; CX True Wireless is described as using passive noise cancellation, which relies on the physical fit of the earbuds rather than an active cancellation system.

Choose CX True Wireless if ANC is not important to you
CX True Wireless may make more sense if you do not need ANC and prefer its manufacturer-listed battery estimate: up to 9 hours for the earbuds and 27 hours with the case on a regional listing. Those figures have different or unstated test conditions from MTW4’s published figures, so they do not establish that CX lasts longer in a like-for-like test. Check local availability and pricing; Sennheiser’s storefront status and specifications can vary by region.
Do not buy by the word “CX” alone
CX Plus True Wireless is a different model from CX True Wireless. Sennheiser lists ANC and Transparency Hearing for CX Plus, as well as up to 24 hours of play time on its product page. In a December 10, 2021 manufacturer comparison, Sennheiser reported up to 8 hours in-ear and 24 hours total for CX Plus, versus up to 9 hours in-ear and 27 hours total for CX. What the specifications mean in everyday use
ANC versus passive isolation
ANC uses microphones and electronics to reduce some ambient sound. Passive isolation comes from the earbud’s seal in your ear. MTW4 has hybrid ANC; the CX True Wireless listing describes passive noise cancellation. A good seal can improve isolation, but neither the rating nor the feature list guarantees that a particular fit will block the sounds you care about.
Battery estimates are not a head-to-head test
Sennheiser specifies up to 7.5 hours of MTW4 music playback with ANC off, 7.0 hours with ANC on, and up to 30 hours overall with the case. The overall figure is tied to an iPhone at mid volume (85 dB). The CX regional listing gives up to 9 hours in the earbuds and 27 hours with the case, but does not state matching test conditions. Actual runtime can vary with volume, settings, source device and use; the available figures do not show which model lasts longer under identical conditions.

Ratings and fit are different considerations
MTW4’s IP54 rating covers dust and splash resistance as specified by Sennheiser. CX True Wireless is rated IPX4 for splash resistance; the “X” means a dust-protection rating is not stated in that classification. Neither rating should be treated as a promise that the earbuds can be submerged.
Sennheiser lists four ear-tip sizes and three ear-fin sizes with MTW4, and four ear-adapter sizes for CX True Wireless. Try different sizes and check that the earbuds seal securely. Comfort and stability depend on your ears, so the number of included sizes cannot predict which will fit you best.

- Confirm the full model name: MOMENTUM True Wireless 4, CX True Wireless or CX Plus True Wireless.
- Check the exact Momentum generation. Sennheiser’s range listing also surfaced MOMENTUM True Wireless 5; this comparison does not establish its detailed specifications.
- Verify current stock, price and regional specifications with the seller or Sennheiser. Availability and listings can vary by market.
