The public pages do not explain how those terms fit together, so check the allowance and reset date shown in your account rather than assuming the 100 screenshots renew monthly.
How many free screenshots does ScreenshotAPI.net give you?
As of the vendor pages checked in October 2026, the pricing page advertises a seven-day free trial with 100 screenshots and says the trial includes all features. The Help Center separately describes 100 free screenshots in a month and says requests reset on the same day of the month as registration.

Those descriptions leave an important question unresolved: the public wording does not establish whether every account receives a recurring monthly free quota or whether the monthly reset applies only to certain trial or account terms. Check your account dashboard for its active allowance and next reset date. Do not plan production volume on the assumption that the pricing-page trial automatically renews.

An HTTP request is not automatically the same thing as a quota-consuming screenshot. The API accepts a request to render a URL, but the Help Center says failed attempts do not count, and cached responses can also be non-consuming. A successful new render is the event most likely to use a screenshot credit.
#1 Best Overall
Successful fresh renders
A successful render that produces a new screenshot should be budgeted as a capture against the allowance. This includes a request that bypasses an existing cached result. The service documentation describes fresh=true as a way to bypass stored cache and render again; use it when the page has changed and you need current content, but do not treat that refresh as a free cache hit. See the vendor’s cached and fresh screenshot documentation.
Failed attempts
The Help Center says only successfully rendered screenshots count toward the plan quota. An unsuccessful capture attempt therefore should not consume a screenshot credit under that policy. A failed HTTP call may still matter for debugging or throughput, so distinguish failure handling from the separate requests-per-minute limit.
Rank #2
Cached repeats
The vendor defines a unique screenshot by the exact URL and render parameters. If caching is enabled, a later request with the same URL and parameters can return the stored result when the cache behavior permits it. The Help Center says cached screenshots do not count toward quota, and the cache documentation says serving a cached result does not consume an additional credit.
That protection depends on an actual matching stored result. Changing a parameter can make the request a different screenshot identity; disabling caching, having no stored result, or setting fresh=true can result in a new render. The documentation describes enable_caching as controlling whether results are stored for reuse, so verify the combination of cache settings you send rather than assuming every repeat is free.
What is a unique screenshot?
ScreenshotAPI.net’s Help Center defines a unique screenshot by the exact target URL and the parameters used for rendering. A changed option—such as a viewport or another capture parameter—can therefore create a distinct screenshot identity even if the page address is unchanged. Repeated identical URL-and-parameter requests are the candidates for cache reuse when caching is configured and a matching result exists.
The endpoint documentation shows a GET request to https://shot.screenshotapi.net/v3/screenshot with an API token, a target URL, and optional rendering parameters. That is useful context for why “request” may mean an HTTP call while “screenshot” means a rendered output for quota purposes; the two should not be counted interchangeably. See Render a Screenshot for the request structure.
Screenshot quota versus requests per minute
The monthly or trial screenshot allowance is a volume limit. The vendor separately documents plan-dependent throughput limits of 20–80 requests per minute. Either can be reached independently: you can hit a per-minute cap while credits remain, or use the quota over time without exceeding the per-minute rate.

How to avoid surprises in usage accounting
- Before estimating recurring capacity, confirm the active allowance and reset date in your account; the public free-offer wording is not reconciled.
- When you want cache reuse, keep the URL and render parameters identical and make sure caching is enabled and a stored result is available.
- Use
fresh=trueonly when you need a new render rather than a cached copy, and budget for a successful capture. - Monitor response status and quota information in your account or implementation; a failed render, a quota exhaustion response, and a rate-limit response are different situations.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its one-call API can return an image or PDF, and its documented options include cache controls and a usage API. For a WebP capture, replace the example URL with your target and send your key:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options. It accepts cookie banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those cleanup steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, and failed loads are not billed, and cache hits are not billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents use take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
