Does Argos CI Have a Free Plan for Open-Source Projects?

Argos offers a free Hobby plan with up to 5,000 screenshots and says open-source projects can get Argos for free through a separate sponsorship route.

Yes. Argos lists a free Hobby plan at $0 with up to 5,000 screenshots, and its community page says open-source projects get Argos for free. These are two distinct routes: the public Hobby plan and a separate open-source sponsorship program for project-specific terms.

What the free Hobby plan includes

Argos’s pricing page lists the Hobby plan at $0 forever, with up to 5,000 screenshots. The listed features include visual and snapshot testing for any file, Storybook and static deployments, an agent-ready CLI and REST API, public media links with 30-day retention, flaky-test detection and debugging, GitHub and GitLab integration, and community support. Argos pricing describes the published plan terms.

The 5,000-screenshot figure is the plan’s stated maximum; the pricing page does not establish that every open-source project receives additional capacity under this plan.

How open-source sponsorship differs

Argos’s community page says, “Open-source projects get Argos for free.” Separately, its pricing page invites open-source projects to contact Argos to discuss a custom plan. That makes sponsorship a project-specific route, not simply another name for the public Hobby tier. Argos’s community page states the open-source offer.

The official pages do not publish application criteria or promise that sponsorship removes all usage limits. Contact Argos directly to confirm eligibility, capacity, and terms for your project rather than assuming every sponsored project receives the same arrangement.

Which route should your project use?

  • Start with Hobby if the published plan’s 5,000-screenshot limit and listed features meet your needs.
  • Ask about sponsorship if you need project-specific support or want Argos to confirm whether your open-source project qualifies for a custom plan.

Argos’s terms say free plans may have usage limits, feature restrictions, or other limitations, and that Argos may modify or discontinue them. The terms page states it was last updated August 13, 2026. Check the current plan details and confirm any sponsorship terms with Argos before relying on them. Argos terms.

ScreenshotNeo is a separate screenshot API alternative

If you are evaluating screenshot tools alongside visual testing, ScreenshotNeo is a separate website screenshot API and MCP server, not an Argos plan. It removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. AI agents can use its MCP server, and its free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
