You can keep a prerecorded kirtan program live on YouTube without leaving a computer running: prepare music and visuals you have the rights to use, configure a cloud relay to send them to YouTube Live, test the feed, and plan separately for recovery and archiving. Check YouTube Live eligibility

Clear the specific recordings and visuals
Kirtan as a genre is not automatically free to broadcast. Check the rights for each sound recording, performance, composition, arrangement, and visual in your program, for the territories where you expect it to be available and for both the livestream and any archive you retain. Keep written permissions or licenses. If a rights owner uses Content ID, ask them to allowlist your channel before going live.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can interrupt or terminate the feed, and a license alone may not prevent a match if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights, including music rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Prepare the kirtan program
Build a playlist or long-form video
Choose recordings you are authorized to broadcast and decide what viewers will see: a still image, authorized artwork with motion, or another permitted visual. Use a playlist if you need to update or rotate material; use a single long-form file if its duration and format suit your relay. Confirm the cloud provider supports the file formats and playback pattern you plan to use.
Check the loop before launch
- Listen through the start and end of each item and the transitions where the playlist repeats. Make sure audio does not clip, disappear, or leave unintended silence.
- Watch the visual through a full loop to catch black frames, unintended overlays, or artwork you do not have permission to use.
- Keep a copy of the approved source files and a record of the permissions associated with them.
These are production checks, not kirtan-specific rules imposed by YouTube.

Create the YouTube Live connection
- Verify your channel and eligibility. Confirm the channel is verified and has no current live-streaming restriction that would prevent the broadcast.
- Open YouTube Studio and create a live stream. Use the encoder/streaming workflow for externally prepared media, rather than a camera-only workflow.
- Copy the current ingest details. Get the stream URL and stream key from the live-stream setup in YouTube Studio. Use the current details shown there instead of an endpoint copied from an old tutorial.
- Choose RTMPS when the relay supports it. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP protected by SSL/TLS and documents port 443 for its RTMPS ingest guide. Use the exact server and connection details provided by YouTube Studio or its official documentation: YouTube RTMPS ingestion.
- Keep the stream key private. Enter it only in the relay’s protected destination settings. Do not publish it, send it to viewers, or treat it like a public channel URL. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the relay.
Configure the cloud relay
- Select the media. Upload the approved video or choose the playlist you prepared.
- Set YouTube as the destination. Enter the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio, and choose RTMPS if available.
- Check the relay’s operating details. Confirm continuous playback, supported file and audio formats, reconnect behavior, stream-key handling, storage limits, alerting, support, and any recording or export options. Do not assume a service reconnects or records unless its current terms or documentation say so.
- Start with a controlled test. Use an unlisted or otherwise controlled broadcast if that suits your channel and audience. Check the YouTube preview, audio/video quality, stream health, rights status, and watch-page access before relying on the feed.
A cloud relay moves the sending workload off your personal computer; it does not make a provider fault-proof. Ask its operator how it monitors a stream, detects a dropped YouTube connection, retries, alerts you, and handles an incident. A provider’s statement that it loops media over YouTube RTMP describes its service, not independent proof of reliability.
Use sensible encoder settings and test them
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Use codecs and other settings supported by both YouTube and your selected relay; confirm the actual profile against YouTube’s live encoder settings. There is no single resolution or bitrate that fits every kirtan program: choose based on the source media and relay capabilities, then verify the result in the preview and stream-health indicators.

For a locally generated feed, YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. Include both primary and backup encoders in that estimate if both may transmit. This bandwidth advice is for the sending connection; a cloud relay’s network capacity and limits are governed by that provider.
Monitor continuity and plan for failure
- Before a scheduled launch, YouTube advises setting up an encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event. These are event-oriented recommendations, not a promise that a 24/7 service needs those exact lead times.
- During the test and after launch, check the YouTube preview and stream-health status, listen for audio problems, and confirm that the watch page is accessible as intended.
- If you configure a backup encoder, test failover rather than assuming it will take over correctly.
- Decide how you will learn about a relay or ingest outage, who can access the relay account, and how you will restart or replace the stream key if needed.

Do not rely on a 24/7 stream for a 24/7 archive
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If replay matters, do not assume a continuous broadcast will produce a complete archive. YouTube recommends recording a local backup; you can also ask whether your relay offers a recording or export feature, then verify that feature before depending on it.
