ScreenshotAPI.net for Social Media Preview Images: Setup and Sizing

Use ScreenshotAPI.net to capture a page or render a branded Open Graph card. Learn the 1200×630 starting size, metadata to add, LinkedIn’s specific limits, and how to manage cached captures.

For ScreenshotAPI.net’s documented Open Graph workflow, start with a 1200 × 630-pixel image. Publish its absolute, publicly reachable URL in og:image, and declare its width and height. For LinkedIn, that canvas exceeds the stated 1200 × 627-pixel minimum and is close to its recommended 1.91:1 ratio; LinkedIn also specifies JPG, PNG, or GIF and a 5 MB maximum. These are LinkedIn-specific limits, not universal rules for every social platform.

Choose what the preview should show

ScreenshotAPI.net documents two ways to generate an image for a social preview:

  • Capture a page URL: Use this when the preview should reproduce an existing page.
  • Render custom HTML: Use this when you want a consistent designed card, such as one that displays a different title, author, or category for each page.

Those are the vendor’s documented workflows, not independently tested results. Its feature material shows both approaches at 1200 × 630 pixels. ScreenshotAPI.net features

Set the image dimensions and format

Use width=1200 and height=630 as the starting canvas for the documented Open Graph example. ScreenshotAPI.net’s HTML-to-image guide lists PNG, JPG, WebP, and PDF output, but listing a format for generation does not mean every social platform accepts it. ScreenshotAPI.net HTML-to-image guide

LinkedIn-specific requirements

LinkedIn Help specifies a minimum image size of 1200 × 627 pixels, recommends a 1.91:1 ratio, and sets a 5 MB maximum. Its listed formats are JPG, PNG, and GIF. A 1200 × 630 image meets the stated minimum dimensions and is close to the recommended ratio. Keep important text and logos comfortably inside the image; the cited guidance does not establish a universal safe-zone measurement. LinkedIn Help: image specifications for sharing

Do not assume these dimensions, formats, or file-size limits apply to Facebook, X, Slack, WhatsApp, or other destinations. Their current requirements are not established here.

Add Open Graph metadata to the page

Set og:image to an absolute image URL that social crawlers can reach, then provide its dimensions. LinkedIn’s Help example also includes the page title, description, and URL. The Open Graph protocol defines the width and height properties as the image’s pixel dimensions. Open Graph protocol

Get an API key and choose GET or POST

ScreenshotAPI.net’s getting-started instructions say to obtain an API key from the dashboard and use it with a GET or POST request. The vendor documents URL capture and custom-HTML rendering; its feature page illustrates a POST body containing custom_html, width, height, and file_type. Consult the current API documentation for the exact request schema and authentication details before wiring it into production. ScreenshotAPI.net getting started · ScreenshotAPI.net features

Choose freshness versus reuse

ScreenshotAPI.net documents fresh=true to request a current screenshot when a previous capture is cached. Its feature material also describes caching generated images for repeat use and refreshing after content changes. Confirm the current behavior for the account and endpoint you use; no timing or cache-performance measurements are established here. ScreenshotAPI.net features

ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API that returns an image or PDF, with controls for format and capture behavior. For example, this cURL command requests a WebP screenshot of a page:

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. For generated social cards, ensure the resulting image URL is public and add the appropriate metadata to your page. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo free: 1,000 screenshots a month, no card required.

Check the preview and diagnose common issues

  • The preview has no image: Verify that og:image contains an absolute URL and that the image can be fetched publicly. Check that the image dimensions are declared and match the actual output.
  • The preview shows an older image: A platform or service may be using a cached result. ScreenshotAPI.net documents fresh=true for requesting an updated capture when a prior screenshot is cached. Recheck the current API documentation and the platform’s preview-refresh behavior.
  • The image is rejected on LinkedIn: Check that it is JPG, PNG, or GIF, no larger than 5 MB, and at least 1200 × 627 pixels, per LinkedIn Help.
  • The capture shows the wrong content: Decide whether to capture the live page or render a purpose-built HTML card, then verify the page content and capture settings before generating a replacement.
  • The image does not appear as expected elsewhere: Do not infer other platforms’ accepted sizes or formats from LinkedIn’s rules; check the destination platform’s current official guidance.

ScreenshotAPI.net’s setup, output, and cache guidance describes the vendor’s service. No API requests or generated images were tested for this article, so it makes no claim about capture speed, reliability, or image quality.
