Neither Save Page WE nor WebScrapBook is established by the available product documentation as a crawler for archiving every page on an entire website. Both are designed around capturing pages. Save Page WE suits saving a rendered page as one HTML file; WebScrapBook adds collection management and more output formats. If you need a site-wide mirror, use a crawler designed to discover and capture pages within a defined scope.
First, define what “complete” means
A “complete page” is one rendered page and its captured resources. A “complete website” means a set of pages discovered and archived under a crawl policy. Capturing a page—even several pages—does not show that every page linked from the site was found or saved.

Save Page WE describes saving a complete web page as it is currently displayed. WebScrapBook likewise captures rendered pages, and its maintainer distinguishes that workflow from headless whole-site crawling, for which spider tools are more suitable. See the Save Page WE project README and the WebScrapBook maintainer discussion on whole-site capture.

| What matters | Save Page WE | WebScrapBook |
|---|---|---|
| Capture model | Saves a complete page as currently displayed. | Captures a rendered page with configurable resource handling. |
| Output | One HTML file. | Folder, ZIP-based HTZ or MAFF archive, or one HTML file. |
| Working with multiple pages | Can save selected tabs or a list of URLs. That is not evidence of automatic site crawling. | Can capture and organize pages into collections. The reviewed documentation does not establish automatic full-site crawling. |
| Organization and retrieval | The project description centers on single-file saving; it does not document WebScrapBook-style collection search. | Supports hierarchical collections, annotations and editing, full-text search, and an optional backend workflow. |
| Best fit | A portable single-file capture of a page, or a chosen group of pages. | Managed collections and a choice of archive formats and organizational tools. |
WebScrapBook’s introduction describes its capture and collection capabilities. Its FAQ discusses format and viewer trade-offs.

Which one should you choose?
Choose Save Page WE for a simple page file
Use it when you want a single HTML artifact for a page as rendered, or want to save selected open tabs or listed URLs. The one-file workflow is straightforward to move and open in a browser. For important captures, open the saved file and check that the content you need is actually present; dynamic or externally loaded resources may not be preserved as expected.
Choose WebScrapBook for a managed archive of selected pages
Use it when you want captures organized into collections, with features such as annotations, editing, and full-text search. Choose an output format according to how you plan to store and use the archive rather than assuming every format has the same compatibility or reliability.
Rank #2
- Easily store and access 5TB of content on the go with the Seagate portable drive, a USB external hard Drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
Choose a crawler for a whole-site mirror
If the goal is to archive a website rather than a hand-picked set of pages, select a crawler that follows links within a defined scope. Before crawling, decide how deep it should go, which URL patterns are in or out, whether pages require authentication or dynamic rendering, and what archival format you need. A browser extension can still be useful for manually capturing pages that need interactive rendering or selection, but the reviewed evidence does not establish either extension as a replacement for a site crawler.

WebScrapBook format and viewer trade-offs
WebScrapBook’s FAQ describes folder capture as its most reliable and broadly usable format. Single-file formats may be more convenient to carry, but the FAQ notes limitations involving large files and merging captures. Its built-in archive page viewer also has specific constraints:
Rank #3
- Easily store and access 1TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive.Specific uses: Personal
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop. Reformatting may be required for Mac
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
- It cannot read a very large ZIP archive, described as around 2 GiB.
- Large files inside an archive, described as around 400–500 MiB, can exhaust memory.
- Scripts do not run in that viewer for security reasons.
These are documented limits of the built-in viewer, not universal capture-size thresholds or proof that capture itself will fail at those sizes. If those cases matter to your workflow, consult the FAQ and test the intended archive and viewer combination.
What neither extension guarantees
A page capture should not be treated as a guarantee that every linked page, resource, login state, interactive feature, or future behavior will be preserved. Verify the saved result against the specific material you need. For a website-wide archive, use a crawler-oriented process and validate its scope and output separately.

A screenshot alternative for individual pages
If you need a visual record of a URL rather than a navigable website archive, ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API and MCP server, not a whole-site crawler or substitute for either extension’s archive workflow. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. It accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status.
