Remove an ad or banner from one saved page
- Let the page finish loading in your browser.
- Open SingleFile’s context menu and choose “Annotate and save the page…” to open its annotation editor.
- Use the editor to remove the visible ad or cookie-banner element, then save the page.
- Open the saved HTML file and confirm the unwanted element is gone and the text or controls you need remain.

Use CSS selectors for recurring elements
If the same unwanted elements appear repeatedly, configure SingleFile’s specific-element removal option with their CSS selectors. The option is documented in the FAQ as HTML content > remove specific elements; enter selectors separated by commas. For example, the setting accepts a comma-separated list of selectors, but the correct selector depends on the page’s markup.

There is no universal selector list for ads or cookie notices in the project documentation. Inspect the page to identify the element you intend to remove, then test the selector against the saved result. A website redesign can change its markup, so revisit selectors that stop working or remove too much. SingleFile FAQ
Why blocking scripts is not the same fix
SingleFile blocks scripts by default because they can change how a page renders and may not work offline. That setting is separate from removing specific HTML elements. Some interactive elements need JavaScript; the FAQ notes that users can retain scripts by changing the blocked-resources setting and adjusting other relevant options as needed. Disabling scripts is therefore not a reliable substitute for removing a banner or ad element.
After changing resource settings or removing elements, inspect the saved page. Removing a container may also remove article text, navigation, or an interactive control within it. SingleFile FAQ

When SingleFile cannot capture the page
Browser security restrictions can prevent extensions from accessing or altering some protected pages. If the ordinary workflow does not work on a particular page, this may be a browser restriction rather than a bad selector. - The banner remains: Confirm the element was removed in the annotation editor, or check that the CSS selector matches the element on the current page.
- Part of the article disappears: The selector may target a larger container than intended. Narrow it to the unwanted element and save again.
- An interactive control no longer works: It may depend on JavaScript. Review SingleFile’s blocked-resources setting rather than treating script blocking as element removal.
- The page cannot be saved or altered: The site may be on a browser-protected domain that blocks extension access.
