For keeping a web article offline on the computer where you saved it, Save Page WE is the usable option of these two. It saves a page as a local HTML file with captured resources. Firefox Pocket is discontinued: Mozilla shut down the service on July 8, 2025, and the export window ended on October 8, 2025. Pocket is not a current alternative.

How Save Page WE works
Save Page WE captures a page in its currently displayed state and saves it, with selected referenced resources, into an HTML file intended to open in a browser. The extension can save one page, multiple selected tabs, or a list of page URLs. Its Basic, Standard, and Custom save modes let you choose what to include; documented resource types include rendered HTML, images, CSS, fonts, audio, video, and other resources. Because the result is a file, it can be moved or backed up independently of the source website. The saved file is not a guarantee that every page feature will work offline: interactive behavior may rely on live services or scripts that were not captured.
What Save Page WE may not preserve
- Cross-origin frames: The extension documents that some cannot be saved, and scripts inside cross-origin frames are not saved.
- Dynamic content: A snapshot reflects what was displayed at capture time. Content that loads later or depends on an active connection may be absent or stop working.
- Complete fidelity: A single HTML file does not guarantee a complete, permanent copy of every interactive page.
The Mozilla Add-ons listing reports version 28.11 and a last update of March 31, 2023. It remains listed, but that date means readers should not assume it has been recently maintained.

What happened to Firefox Pocket
Pocket was Mozilla’s read-later service: users could save pages or videos to an account and read them in a cleaner view. Mozilla announced the shutdown on May 22, 2025. The service ended July 8, 2025; users could export saves through October 8, 2025, after which saved data was to be permanently deleted. Those dates have passed. Mozilla’s current shutdown page confirms that Pocket’s web, Android, iOS, and macOS apps and browser extensions were phased out.
Mozilla explained the decision this way: “But the way people save and consume content on the web has evolved, so we’re channeling our resources into projects that better match browsing habits today.” The announcement and current shutdown information also notes that Pocket recommendations once connected tens of millions of people each month; that historical figure is not a measure of users after shutdown.

Which should you use?
Choose Save Page WE for a local snapshot
It fits the need to keep an HTML copy on the same computer, open it later in a browser, and manage the file yourself. Check the result on pages where embedded frames, interactive features, or delayed content matter.
Do not choose Pocket as a current service
Pocket is shut down, so it cannot provide new saves or synced reading. Mozilla describes Tab Groups and enhanced bookmarks as built-in ways to manage reading lists, but those features are not offline HTML archives.
