If it can access the page but the saved file is blank or incomplete, try its alternate save method. If Chrome shows a download error, troubleshoot the download destination or the specific error separately; that does not automatically mean the extension lacks permission.
1. Check that Save Page WE is enabled and available
- In desktop Chrome, open Extensions > Manage extensions.
- Find Save Page WE and make sure its switch is on.
- If it is enabled but missing from the toolbar, open the Extensions menu and pin it.
If Chrome says the extension is unsupported, or it is disabled by a work or school policy, the issue may not be something you can fix with a site permission. Chrome notes that administrators can block extensions on managed browsers; ask your administrator to check the policy. The instructions here concern desktop Chrome, not the mobile browser workflow. 2. Give the extension access to the page
Chrome controls whether an extension can read and change data on a site. Open the Extensions menu, point to This can read and change site data, then choose the narrowest access level that allows your save attempt:
- When you select the extension: grant access only when you invoke it.
- On this site: allow it automatically on the current site.
- On all sites: allow it automatically on every site.
You can also add site-specific access from Save Page WE’s Details page in Extensions > Manage extensions. The extension listing does not establish that one permission level is required for every workflow, so do not enable access to all sites unless you need it. Chrome warns that broad website access can let an extension read, request, or change data on pages you visit. 3. If it starts but saves the wrong content, try the other save method
Save Page WE’s Chrome Web Store listing describes two methods. The old method remembers the last save location but can fail on some pages; the listing gives Yahoo as an example in Chrome 84 or later. The new method does not remember that location but is described as able to save all pages. The listing for version 33.9 says the extension selects the original or new method automatically. Switching methods is a diagnostic option for a page-specific problem, not a guarantee that every page’s dynamic content will be captured perfectly. Save Page WE in the Chrome Web Store.
If clicking the toolbar icon appears to do nothing, try another documented way to start a save: right-click the page and use a Save Page WE context-menu action, or press Alt+A. Press Alt+C to cancel an active save. Check Chrome’s Downloads list afterward to see whether a file was created.

4. Diagnose Chrome download errors separately
Save Page WE saves an HTML file using Chrome’s download handling. Check Chrome’s Downloads settings for the destination folder and the option Ask where to save each file before downloading. If Chrome displays an error, use its wording to choose the remedy rather than changing extension permissions at random. Save Page WE listing; Google Chrome Help: Fix file download errors.

| Disk full | Free space on the destination drive, then retry. |
| Download blocked | Check Chrome or device security settings that may be blocking the file. |
| Needs authorization or Forbidden | The file’s website or server is denying access. This error alone does not show that Save Page WE lacks Chrome extension permission. |
Google’s download-error guidance also suggests trying Save link as where applicable. That is relevant to downloading a link, not a general replacement for saving the currently displayed page.

5. Repair only if Chrome reports a problem with the extension
If Chrome marks it corrupted
- Open Extensions > Manage extensions.
- Find Save Page WE marked as corrupted.
- Select Repair and follow Chrome’s prompts.
If Chrome says it is unsupported
Chrome’s help describes a limited-time option to re-enable some unsupported extensions and recommends finding an alternative before the extension is permanently disabled. Availability can depend on Chrome’s current policy and whether a browser administrator manages the device; check the status and options shown in your own Manage extensions page.

Does Save Page WE work on mobile Chrome?
The extension controls and troubleshooting steps covered here are for desktop Chrome; they do not establish the same toolbar workflow for mobile Chrome.

Will allowing access on all sites fix every failed save?
No. Chrome offers several access levels, and the extension listing does not say that all-sites access is mandatory for every use. Start with the narrowest level that works.
