Control placement can vary with Safari’s window layout, but the command is the built-in way to create a Tab Group from the current window’s tabs.
Choose the right way to save a page or tab set
| Safari feature | What it preserves | How to return to it |
|---|---|---|
| Tab Group | A named collection of related tabs from the current window | Select the group in the sidebar |
| Bookmark | An individual page saved for later | Open the bookmark; Command-D adds a bookmark |
| Reading List | Pages collected for later reading; Safari can save Reading List webpages offline | Open the item in Reading List |
| Pinned tab | A page you want to keep readily available in Safari | Pinned tabs reopen automatically the next time Safari launches |
For a Reading List page, use the Share button to add it. Safari also has an option to automatically save all Reading List webpages for offline reading. Reading List is meant for later reading, not for preserving the current window as a named tab set.

Reopen tabs after closing them
If you closed a tab by mistake, press Shift-Command-T to reopen the last closed tab. Press the shortcut again to step back through recently closed tabs. This is a recovery option, not a saved, named collection of the window’s tabs.
