The claim that Samsung’s 12-layer HBM4E has cleared NVIDIA quality verification is not supported by Samsung’s own published material. What Samsung did announce, on May 29, 2026, is that it began shipping 12-layer HBM4E samples to “major global customers.” That announcement doesn’t name NVIDIA, and it doesn’t say any customer’s verification is complete.
What Samsung actually announced
Samsung’s May 29, 2026 announcement covers sample shipments of 12-layer HBM4E. It cites speeds of up to 16 Gbps. It also says the product uses Samsung’s sixth-generation 10-nanometer-class DRAM process and a 4-nanometer logic base die. These are Samsung’s own descriptions of its product.

In the same announcement, Sang Joon Hwang, Executive Vice President and Head of Memory Development, said: “Following the successful mass production of HBM4, Samsung has once again demonstrated its distinct technological edge with HBM4E.” That is a promotional statement about the technology. It says nothing about a customer’s qualification result.

Samples go to customers so they can test them. Shipping samples is the start of that evaluation, not the end of it. Treating a shipment as a pass skips the actual result. Three things are missing from the sources reviewed:
#1 Best Overall
- AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
- OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
- No Samsung statement saying NVIDIA completed qualification of HBM4E.
- No NVIDIA statement confirming it.
- No named HBM4E customers. Samsung’s HBM product page also says specific customer-qualification timelines have not been publicly disclosed.
Because the evidence is limited to company-published material, any performance figure here is a Samsung claim. No independent test was identified.
Where the NVIDIA link does exist: HBM4, not HBM4E
At NVIDIA’s GTC in March 2026, Samsung said HBM4 was in mass production and designed for NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform. It described HBM4E only as a next-generation product to be displayed. The NVIDIA relationship Samsung disclosed belongs to the earlier generation. It can’t be carried over to HBM4E.

The specifications Samsung has published
- Speed: up to 16 Gbps for the 12-layer HBM4E samples (May 29 announcement).
- GTC figures: 16 Gbps per pin and 4.0 TB/s of bandwidth for HBM4E.
- Process: sixth-generation 10nm-class DRAM with a 4nm logic base die.
All of these are Samsung-published numbers. Samsung didn’t state test conditions in the material reviewed.

Samsung describes HBM as memory dies stacked vertically and linked by through-silicon vias (TSVs). Common stack heights include 4-high, 8-high and 12-high, depending on the generation. Taller stacks bring more thermal and manufacturing difficulty, which is one reason a 12-layer part reaching customers is notable even before any qualification outcome.

- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4. System Requirements: Minimum 850W PSU with 16-pin 12V-2x6 (12VHPWR) connector required. Verify before purchasing.
- Military-grade components deliver rock-solid power and longer lifespan for ultimate durability. Compatibility: 348mm (13.7") length, 3.6 slots, 4.3 lbs. Confirm case clearance and slot spacing. GPU bracket included.
- Protective PCB coating helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, dust, or debris
- 3.6-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
Hybrid copper bonding: a separate claim
At GTC, Samsung also described hybrid copper bonding as a route to HBM with 16 or more layers. It said the method offers more than 20 percent lower thermal resistance than thermal compression bonding. That is a technology claim from Samsung. Its announcements don’t establish that the shipped 12-layer HBM4E samples use this bonding method, and it isn’t evidence of NVIDIA approval.

A reliable “cleared verification” report would need one of these:
Rank #4
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Powered by GeForce RTX 5060
- Integrated with 8GB GDDR7 128bit memory interface
- PCIe 5.0
- WINDFORCE cooling system
- An NVIDIA statement naming HBM4E and confirming qualification.
- A Samsung release explicitly saying NVIDIA qualification is complete.
- A named, credible report that says what was verified, for which product and for which platform.
Be cautious with headlines that rely on unnamed sources or that merge sample shipments, demos, the HBM4 supply relationship and a pass result into one claim. As of the sources reviewed, only the sample shipment and the HBM4 mass-production status are confirmed.
