On a Samsung washer, UB usually means the laundry is unbalanced and the machine cannot complete its spin. Pause the cycle, untangle and spread the items around the drum, then close the door and restart. If the code returns, check the washer’s placement and the load before consulting the manual for your exact model.
What does UB mean on a Samsung washer?
Samsung groups Ub, UE, U6, Ur, 1 Ub and 1U6 together as unbalanced-load information codes in its US guidance. The washer may slow down, retry or stop spinning when laundry is gathered unevenly. The exact code definitions can vary by model, so use the manual for your washer if its display or behavior does not match these descriptions. What does Ur mean?
Samsung says Ur indicates the washer is retrying: it may add water, try to balance the load and attempt to spin again. Other codes in the group can indicate that the cycle may not finish because the load is unbalanced. A retry can take extra time; it does not by itself identify a failed component.

How to clear the UB code
- Pause and redistribute the load. Untangle knotted items and spread the laundry around the drum instead of leaving one heavy clump on one side. Close the door and restart the cycle. This is Samsung’s first recommended check. Samsung US troubleshooting
- Consider whether the load is too small or dominated by one bulky item. A single bathrobe or pair of jeans may not spin satisfactorily. Samsung UK recommends adding one or two towels to an undersized load and running Rinse/Spin. Only add items suitable for the selected cycle and fabric. Samsung UK washing-machine guidance
- Check the washer’s footing and the load. The machine should sit on a flat, stable surface, with all four feet touching the floor and balanced. Avoid overloading, distribute items evenly and choose a cycle suited to the fabric. - Give the washer time to rebalance. Samsung UK says some machines rotate slowly in both directions to reposition laundry, extending the cycle. The washer may also choose a lower final spin speed when appropriate. Samsung UK guidance on cycle behavior
- Use model-specific help if the code persists. If the load is balanced and the washer is stable but UB keeps returning or the machine repeatedly cannot finish a spin, check the exact model’s manual and contact Samsung support. Why load size and placement matter
Heavy, bulky or single items can collect on one side of the drum, making it harder for the washer to spin evenly. Both an overloaded drum and a very small load can pose balancing problems. A stable machine and a cycle suited to the load are additional checks Samsung recommends; they are not proof of a particular mechanical fault.

Samsung India publishes bedding-cover guidance that illustrates why instructions should not be generalized across regions and models: for top-load machines it says bedding covers should be 3.0 kg or less; for front-load bedding covers it recommends a maximum 800 rpm and 2.0 kg or less. When to contact Samsung
Seek model-specific help if UB recurs after you redistribute the laundry, confirm the machine is stable and use an appropriate load and cycle, or if the washer repeatedly fails to complete a spin. UB alone does not establish that a bearing, suspension, sensor or control board has failed. The Samsung guidance describes an unbalanced-load condition; it does not diagnose a specific failed part for an individual washer.
