If your Samsung screen stopped responding after installing One UI 8.5, force-restart the phone, then test it without its case or screen protector. Check accessibility touch settings and moisture next; if the screen still will not respond, use Samsung Members diagnostics if available or contact Samsung service. The timing may be related, but it does not by itself prove the update caused the problem.
What to try first
Work through these checks in order. They start with reversible steps and do not require you to erase data or install unofficial software.

- Force-restart the Galaxy phone. Hold the Side key and Volume down together for more than seven seconds, until the device restarts automatically. A temporary system error can interfere with touch response.
- Remove the case and screen protector temporarily. Test the display with both removed, since accessories can affect touch sensitivity or gesture recognition. If removing the protector restores touch, Samsung also suggests enabling Settings → Display → Touch sensitivity. Menu names can vary by model and software version.
- Check accessibility touch settings. Review TalkBack, the Magnification shortcut, and options under Interaction and dexterity, including touch-and-hold delay, tap duration, and ignore repeated touches. These settings can change how taps and gestures work. If TalkBack is active, use Samsung’s instructions for navigating with its voice guidance; labels and paths vary across devices.
- Dry the display. Wipe moisture away with a soft, dry cloth and test the screen again.
- Run the touchscreen diagnostic if you can navigate the phone. Open Samsung Members → Support → Get started → Touch screen, then follow the on-screen instructions. Samsung says this diagnostic is available on Galaxy devices with Samsung Members installed.
What post-update reports do—and don’t—show
Galaxy owners have posted reports of wholly or intermittently unresponsive touchscreens after One UI 8.5, including reports involving a Galaxy Flip 5 and Galaxy M-series phones. Those posts document individual experiences; they do not establish how common the issue is or prove that the update caused a particular phone’s failure.

In a September 10, 2026 report focused on the Galaxy A07, Android Authority described complaints of lag and freezing touch input on the 4G and 5G models. It reported stability updates for the 5G model, while the cited 4G changelog mentioned security improvements. The report said Samsung had not acknowledged the reported problem or confirmed a fix as of that date. This is specific to the A07 reporting at that time, not a finding about every A07 or Galaxy model. Read Android Authority’s September 10, 2026 report.

Samsung’s general touchscreen guidance lists several possible factors—including temporary system errors, protectors and accessories, accessibility settings, and moisture—but it is not a One UI 8.5-specific fix. If the screen remains unresponsive after the checks above, use Samsung Members diagnostics if you can access them, or contact a Samsung service centre. Samsung’s support guidance recommends service-centre assistance when troubleshooting does not resolve the issue. If arranging service, verify that the provider is authorized for your model and region, ask for a cost estimate and warranty implications, and confirm how your data will be handled; those details depend on the provider and are not established by the troubleshooting guidance.

Do not assume that a factory reset, software downgrade, or unofficial repair will fix a post-update touch problem. Samsung’s cited general guidance does not recommend those as universal remedies. Avoid buying a replacement display or other hardware until a qualified diagnosis identifies the fault.
