To get “ID SET” on a Samsung soundbar, first switch the soundbar off, then put the subwoofer or compatible rear speakers into pairing mode. Hold the correct button on the soundbar or its remote until “ID SET” appears. The button differs by model, so use your soundbar’s manual if the sequence below does not match its controls.
Check whether manual pairing is needed
Compatible components included with a Samsung soundbar generally pair automatically when powered on. If the subwoofer’s blue LINK light becomes solid, it is connected and you do not need to run ID SET. Manual pairing is useful when automatic connection fails or after a service or replacement. How to run ID SET
- Power the devices. Connect the soundbar and the subwoofer or rear-speaker components to power.
- Turn the soundbar off. Use its power button or remote.
- Start pairing mode on the component. On the subwoofer, use a small pointed object to press and hold the recessed ID SET button on its rear. Release it when the STANDBY light turns off and the blue LINK light blinks rapidly. For rear speakers or a receiver module, follow the ID SET instructions for that component’s model.
- Trigger ID SET on the soundbar. The required control varies. Samsung documents holding VOL or Up on the remote for 5–6 seconds for rear-speaker pairing. Its subwoofer guide documents holding Mute while the soundbar is off, with Up as an alternative if Mute does not work. Some soundbars have an ID SET button on the bar itself. Check the manual for your exact model.
- Finish the connection. While the component’s blue LINK light is blinking, turn on the soundbar unless it powers on automatically.
Read the LINK light to confirm the result
- Solid blue: The connection has been established.
- Rapidly blinking blue: The component is in pairing mode; continue with the soundbar step.
- Still blinking after the soundbar step: Pairing has not completed. Turn the soundbar off and repeat the procedure, following the controls for your model.
When the steps do not match your equipment
The remote has no expected button
There is no single remote sequence for every Samsung soundbar. The rear-speaker procedure uses VOL or Up, while the subwoofer procedure uses Mute or, as an alternative, Up. Some models provide an onboard ID SET button. Use the soundbar’s model-specific manual rather than assuming a button sequence from another model.
You are adding rear speakers
Rear-speaker kits are model-specific. Check the precise soundbar model against Samsung’s compatibility information or its manual before buying a kit or diagnosing a newly added one. Compatibility examples on Samsung’s US page include SWA-9500S, SWA-9200S, SWA-9100S, SWA-9000S and SWA-8500S; the listed compatibility applies to the models and region shown on that page.

“Wireless” does not necessarily mean every part is cable-free. Most kits use a wireless receiver module, with speaker wires connecting the two rear speakers to it. Samsung describes the SWA-9500S as an exception: it has no receiver module and each speaker uses a power cord. For a receiver kit, match the gray and blue plugs and jacks to their corresponding speaker labels, and ensure the wire’s bare metal—not its insulation—contacts the terminals.
The speakers connect but do not sound like surround speakers
A successful ID SET connection does not guarantee discrete rear-channel sound. Samsung notes that a 2.0 soundbar or 2.0 source does not provide discrete rear channels, even when connected speakers play audio. Check the soundbar’s specifications, the audio source’s encoding and the TV’s audio format.
