Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo connect a compatible Samsung TV to Google Home, first add it to the SmartThings app. Then link SmartThings in Google Home, authorize the Samsung account you use with SmartThings, and choose the correct SmartThings location. Google Assistant control is basic and varies by TV model; a separate streaming device is not required for this setup.
Before you start: check TV compatibility
Samsung TVs connect to Google Assistant through SmartThings. Samsung states, “Your TV must be connected through SmartThings to use it with Google Assistant.” Check compatibility using the TV’s exact model number rather than assuming every Samsung TV supports the connection.

- Open the SmartThings app and start its Add device flow.
- Search for the TV by its product name or exact model number.
- If the TV does not appear in the search, Samsung says it is not compatible with SmartThings.
See Samsung’s SmartThings and Google Assistant setup instructions and its SmartThings compatibility guidance.
Add the TV to Google Home through SmartThings
- Add the TV to SmartThings. Follow the app’s prompts and make sure the TV appears under the SmartThings location you intend to use.
- Open Google Home. Go to Settings > Works with Google, search for SmartThings, and select it. Google Home’s labels can change between app versions; if the path differs, look in its settings for the section used to link services or works-with-Google devices.
- Authorize your Samsung account. Sign in with the Samsung account connected to SmartThings and approve the connection.
- Choose the SmartThings location and devices. Select the location that contains the TV, then choose the compatible devices you want to link.
- Assign the TV a room in Google Home. This makes it easier to identify and address the TV in the home.
- Test a basic command. Ask Google Assistant to turn the TV on or off.
Samsung has also documented an older route through Google Home’s Assistant tab and Home control. If those labels appear in your app, use the available Home control or linked-service options and verify that you authorize the same SmartThings location containing the TV. See Samsung’s Google Home and TV control guidance.

What Google Assistant can control
Samsung describes Google Assistant control as basic compared with Bixby. Its examples include turning the TV on or off and changing channels. Which commands work depends on the TV model, software, and region. The available Samsung guidance does not establish that Google Assistant can navigate every TV setting or app, so do not assume full voice control.
If the TV does not appear or commands fail
- The TV is missing from SmartThings: Search by the exact model number in SmartThings’ Add device flow. If it is absent, Samsung’s compatibility guidance says it is not compatible with the app.
- The TV appears in SmartThings but not Google Home: Check that it belongs to the SmartThings location selected when you authorized the connection. Google Home controls devices registered to the location selected during linking.
- A streaming device turns the TV on or off inconsistently: Check whether the TV supports HDMI-CEC and whether CEC is enabled. Google notes that CEC may be off by default and that the feature may not be available in every region. The setting’s name and menu location depend on the TV model, so consult that model’s Samsung manual.
- The connection still does not work: Check Samsung’s current software and troubleshooting information for your model. There is no single menu path established for every Samsung TV.
Google’s instructions for external-device power control are in Google Home and Nest Help.

Optional alternative: use a Google streaming device
If you want a separate streaming-device setup, Google documents voice control with supported devices such as Google TV Streamer (4K), paired with a Google speaker or display. Turning the TV’s power on or off through this route requires HDMI-CEC, and availability can vary by region. This is an alternative—not a requirement for connecting a compatible Samsung TV to Google Home through SmartThings.
