It is for public middle and high school students in grades 6–12, but an eligible adult employed by the school—not a student—must submit the classroom’s application. The 2026–27 season is powered by MIT Solve and adds a new AI Impact Award.
Who can enter Samsung Solve for Tomorrow?
Students in grades 6–12 at publicly funded U.S. schools can develop a project for the competition. An educator or other applicant must be at least 21 and employed by the school to submit on the students’ behalf. A student-created account cannot submit an eligible application. Samsung’s overview describes eligible schools as receiving at least 50% of their operating funds from public sources; its FAQ specifically says charter schools qualify when they meet that threshold. See Samsung’s eligibility FAQ and program overview for current details.

What does the application require?
Students first develop an idea with their educator; the educator then submits the entry. Samsung describes five application questions focused on the community challenge, the proposed STEM solution, and its potential impact. The five main questions remain the same this season, Samsung says, even as the applicant experience is powered by MIT Solve. The current public description does not provide the complete question text or detailed scoring weights, so educators should consult Samsung’s current rules and judging criteria rather than infer requirements from prior seasons.
For a practical readiness check, a team should be able to identify a concrete local problem, explain how a science, technology, engineering, or math approach could address it, and describe the likely benefit. Educators should also consider whether they can support later video and presentation work if the project advances; those later steps are not part of every initial application.

What changed for the 2026–27 season?
MIT Solve powers the competition
Samsung says MIT Solve brings its methodology and platform into the applicant experience. This is an operational change to how the competition is powered, not a change to the five main application questions, according to Samsung’s launch announcement.

How large is the program?
Samsung’s current program landing page reports that more than 620,000 U.S. students have submitted over 27,250 school entries, and that 4,000 schools across America have been awarded $31 million in Samsung technology and classroom resources. The page does not give an as-of date for those cumulative figures; they are Samsung’s published program totals, not independently audited counts. It also says Solve for Tomorrow has reached more than 2.9 million students in 68 countries worldwide. These figures provide context, but they do not change this U.S. season’s eligibility or application process. Source: Samsung Solve for Tomorrow.

What should educators check before submitting?
- Confirm that the school meets Samsung’s public-funding threshold and that participating students are in grades 6–12.
- Ensure the person submitting is at least 21 and employed by the school.
- Allow time to develop clear responses to the five questions before November 23, 2026.
- Review the current official rules, judging criteria, and any required forms before entry; do not assume prior-season terms apply.
- Track Samsung’s official schedule because dates may change, and plan for a video or presentation only if the team advances.
Samsung’s launch announcement and current FAQ are the places to confirm requirements and updates.
