Samsung says to request service for an ice maker frozen over with ice, and warns against using a hair dryer or forcing out a stuck ice bucket. A reset is a separate troubleshooting step for some ice-production problems; it does not thaw the unit.
First, identify what is wrong
The RF263BEAESG is a 25 cu. ft. French-door refrigerator with Samsung’s Ice Master ice maker in the refrigerator compartment, according to Samsung’s product sheet. The right next step depends on whether the ice maker is visibly frozen over or simply not making ice.

If the ice maker is frozen over
Samsung’s consumer guidance is not to manually defrost the ice maker. It says the unit has an automatic defrost function and directs owners to request service if it is frozen over with a sheet of ice. That guidance applies even if the ice maker appears accessible: the visible ice may indicate that the automatic defrost function is not working as intended. - Do not use a hair dryer or other heat source to melt the ice; Samsung warns this may damage the ice maker.
- Do not pull or pry a stuck ice bucket. If it will not release normally, leave it in place and arrange service.
- Do not enter the refrigerator’s service mode or use button combinations intended for technicians as a thawing method.
Samsung’s RF263BEAESG support page provides the model’s user manual and quick guide, modified June 28, 2016. You can use it to confirm ordinary controls and model-specific instructions, but a frozen-over ice maker should be escalated rather than treated as a routine reset. Open the RF263BEAESG support page.

If there is no ice but no visible sheet of ice
Check the user-accessible basics
Confirm that the ice maker is turned on and that the ice bucket is correctly seated. If the bucket is stuck or cannot be removed without force, stop and request service instead of trying to free it.
Consider a single test-button reset
Samsung describes a test-button procedure for some ice makers that are not working: remove the bucket and hold the Test button until the unit chimes. The button’s position can vary by ice-maker layout, so use the RF263BEAESG manual rather than assuming a generic guide shows the correct control. Follow Samsung’s instructions and do not repeat tests after the tray has filled; repeated testing can cause water to overflow or ice to jam. See Samsung’s test-button guidance.

A test cycle checks the ice maker’s operation; it does not melt ice or repair an automatic-defrost fault. If the unit is sheet-frozen, skip the reset and request service.
When to call for service
- The ice maker is covered by a sheet of ice.
- The bucket will not come out with normal handling.
- The ice maker remains inoperative after ordinary checks and the instructed test.

Why service-manual defrost instructions are not an owner procedure
Technical documentation for the RF263BEAE model family describes test modes, including an “Fd” mode. That is service documentation, not a consumer defrost procedure. Samsung’s consumer guidance for a sheet-frozen ice maker is to request service, so do not use service-mode instructions or display-button combinations to attempt a thaw. The family service manual is available at ManualsLib’s RF263BEAE service-manual page, but it should not override the owner-safe guidance above.
