If your Samsung SolarCell Smart Remote blinks twice when you press a button, Samsung says it has lost its Bluetooth connection to the TV. Turn on the TV, point the remote at it, and hold Return/Back + Play/Pause for at least three seconds; follow any pairing message on screen. A red blink by itself is not enough to identify the cause: Samsung’s documented blink pattern applies to specified SolarCell and Smart Remote models, not every Samsung remote.
Why is my Samsung remote blinking red and not pairing?
First count the blinks and identify the remote. For the SolarCell Smart Remotes covered in Samsung’s guides, two blinks after a button press mean the Bluetooth connection has been lost. Samsung does not define every red, steady, or rapid blink as the same error, so do not assume a different pattern has the same meaning. A Bluetooth disconnect may not disable every function. Samsung says the remote also uses infrared, so some basic TV control may still work while smart functions such as voice control need Bluetooth restored.

How do I pair the remote with the TV again?
- Turn on the TV. Keep the remote near it; Samsung’s India guidance recommends a distance of no more than six meters during pairing.
- Point the remote toward the TV.
- Press and hold Return/Back + Play/Pause together for at least three seconds.
- Wait for the on-screen pairing status or message. Button names and layouts can vary by remote generation and region, so use the labels on your remote and consult its model-specific instructions if they differ.
If no connection message appears, check that the TV is on and retry close to it. Samsung describes the pairing steps in its Solar Remote pairing guide.

When should I charge a SolarCell remote?
On the SolarCell models covered by Samsung’s instructions, an LED that stays lit for at least five seconds can indicate that the remote needs charging. Samsung Canada also says its indicator can light for five seconds when battery status is at or below 10%; that threshold is specific to the Canadian guide and should not be treated as a universal Samsung code. During USB charging, a steady light is expected and turns off when charging is complete.
Charge a compatible remote by exposing its solar panel to light or by using its USB-C port, if that exact remote has one. Samsung says the cable is not included. Check the remote for a USB-C port before choosing a cable; not all Samsung remotes use the same charging method. On compatible TVs, battery status appears under Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Power and Energy Saving > Available Remote Battery. Menu availability varies by model and country. Should I reboot or reset the remote?
Try the normal pairing procedure first. Samsung’s 2025 Gulf guide documents a reboot and a separate reset-and-pair sequence; they are different actions, and their button combinations should not be assumed to apply to every model.
Reboot the remote
For the models covered by that guide, hold Return + Enter together for at least 10 seconds. For a battery-powered remote, Samsung advises removing and reinserting the batteries.

Reset and pair
For the models covered, hold Return + Voice for at least three seconds, then hold Return + Play/Pause for at least three seconds to pair. Check that your remote has these buttons and verify the steps for your model before using them. Samsung’s 2025 remote reboot, reset and pairing guide notes that instructions can vary with model and button layout.

- Confirm that the TV is powered on and that its outlet works.
- Try the TV Controller button on the television. If the TV responds to that button but not to the remote, the issue may be with the remote or its connection; if it does not respond, investigate the TV or power supply.
- After checking charge and retrying the model-appropriate pairing steps, consult the TV’s manual or contact Samsung support if the remote still will not connect. Samsung’s Q80CD troubleshooting instructions describe the outlet and TV Controller checks.
Do not conclude that the remote is defective until you have considered its charge, compatibility, and whether the TV responds to its own controller.
