How to check available storage on a Samsung phone

Tap Device care or Device maintenance.

Tap Storage. The screen shows storage use and remaining capacity. Samsung’s UK instructions list these menu names: Samsung UK: Check the available storage on my smartphone.

If the remaining-space figure is not immediately visible, give the phone a moment to calculate it. Samsung says this can take about a minute; the indicator may appear grey while the calculation is in progress. [c001]

Samsung menus can vary by phone model and software version. Look for either Device care or Device maintenance, then open Storage. If you do not see either label, search Settings for “Storage” or check your model’s Samsung support instructions. How to find what is using your storage
Review categories in Device care
In Settings > Device care or Device maintenance > Storage, open a storage category to inspect its contents. Samsung says you can select files to delete from the category view. Check what a file is before removing it, especially if you may need it later. [c003]
Use My Files to analyze files
Samsung’s My Files app includes an Analyze storage function. It can show a storage breakdown and identify duplicate, large, or unused files for you to review. These are suggestions to inspect—not a reason to delete files automatically. [c003]

Can I check an SD card or USB storage?
On a phone with an SD card, remaining card space may appear near the bottom of the Storage screen, according to Samsung’s UK instructions. SD-card support depends on the model, so do not assume every Galaxy phone has a card slot. [c001] [c004]
For compatible phones, Samsung describes connecting USB or SD storage through an OTG connection and using My Files to copy or move files. Compatibility depends on the phone and connection; Samsung Singapore’s instructions explain the supported-device caveat: Samsung Singapore: Transfer files to external storage. Samsung also notes that support information and screens can differ by country: Samsung Canada mobile support.
