Android’s Conversations feature gives supported chats a dedicated place in the notification shade, where you can manage their priority and alerts. It is not the same thing as a floating chat bubble. Google documents bubbles on Pixel, and Samsung documents them on Galaxy phones too—but the available instructions don’t establish that Galaxy offers the same complete Conversations experience I value on my Pixel. So “wasting” is my judgment about the experience, not a claim that Samsung removed the feature.
What Android’s Conversations feature does
Android’s Conversations area is a way to surface and manage notifications from messaging conversations. Android’s platform documentation says Android 11 added support for customizing how conversation notifications appear in the notification shade, including their priority and alerting level. The system can also launch conversation-specific bubbles, but that is one way to access a conversation—not the whole Conversations framework. At the app level, Android’s developer guidance describes how a conversation notification can open the conversation in the app, or in a bubble if that conversation has already been bubbled. Apps use conversation-related data, including long-lived shortcuts and participant information, to identify chats. That is implementation guidance, not a promise that every messaging app supports every capability. Android Developers: People and conversations
Conversations and bubbles solve different problems
Conversations refers to Android’s notification treatment for chats: where they appear and how their priority and alerts can be managed. A bubble is a floating interface that keeps a supported chat accessible over other apps. Bubbles relate to conversations, but seeing bubble instructions for a phone does not prove that its notification shade presents or manages Conversations in the same way as another phone.

- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
That distinction matters when comparing Pixel and Galaxy. A device may support floating chat bubbles without establishing how the broader Conversations area behaves. The official instructions available here describe bubble setup on both platforms, but do not provide a like-for-like account of every Conversations control on each device.
How to set up conversation bubbles on a Pixel
Google’s Pixel instructions say bubble setup involves both general notification settings and the messaging app’s settings. Some of the steps apply only to Android 11 and later, and the instructions should not be taken as proof that every Pixel model, Android release, and messaging app behaves identically. - Google Pixel 10a is a durable, everyday phone with more[1]; snap brilliant photography on a simple, powerful camera, get 30+ hours out of a full charge[2], and do more with helpful AI like Gemini[3]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]
- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]
- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
Use Google’s instructions for the exact controls on your Pixel and Android version. In practice, check the system-level notification options as well as the selected messaging app’s bubble options; enabling only one may not be enough. Google Messages also has its own notification and bubble settings, and says pinned bubbles can make conversations accessible in fewer steps. Can Samsung Galaxy use message bubbles?
Yes. Samsung’s US support page documents bubble notifications on Galaxy phones running One UI 3, 4, 5, and 6, including for Google Messages. For Google Messages, it gives this route: Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings > Floating notifications > Bubbles, followed by Google Messages settings > Bubbles. Samsung says text messages can appear in draggable bubbles and cautions that available features and settings vary by app. Samsung Support US: Put your messages in floating bubbles or pop-ups on Galaxy phones
That menu path is the one Samsung documents for the stated One UI generations, not a guarantee that every current Galaxy build uses the same labels. If the path differs, check your phone’s One UI version and the notification options for the messaging app you use.

Samsung’s documented bubble support answers whether a Galaxy can show floating message chats; it does not settle whether its broader Conversations notification experience matches the one I like on Pixel. The cited official pages are not a controlled comparison of the same app on the same Android version, nor do they establish the equivalent controls and steps across current Pixel and Galaxy builds.

- Google Pixel 10 Pro is the ultimate Pixel experience, featuring advanced AI with Gemini, unbelievable camera quality, impeccable design in two sizes, and the next-gen Google Tensor G5 chip[1]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[2]; it works - Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[11]
- Pixel’s pro camera system makes everything look amazing, even in low light; capture more of the scene with advanced Google AI models, and bring out incredible details with 100x Pro Res Zoom, stunning 50 MP images, and super steady videos in 8K[10]
- Pixel 10 Pro is built with durable aluminum and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for scratch and drop resistance; the 6.3-inch Super Actua display with 3,300-nit peak brightness is easy on the eyes, even in direct sunlight[3,13,18]
That is why I call Samsung’s treatment a missed opportunity rather than saying Galaxy lacks Conversations. The distinction is practical: a bubble can make one chat easy to reopen, while conversation notifications are also about how chats are surfaced and prioritized in the shade. To make a device-specific comparison, check the same messaging app on both phones and record the model, Android or One UI build, whether its notification appears in Conversations, what priority and alert controls are available, whether it can be bubbled, and the steps required to enable it.

Why the experience can differ by phone
- Android version: Android’s enhanced Conversations notification capabilities are associated with Android 11 and later platform behavior.
- Manufacturer software: Pixel and Galaxy instructions describe their own settings workflows; labels and placement can vary by software generation.
- Messaging app: App support and settings matter. Samsung explicitly warns that bubble features and options vary by app, and Android’s developer documentation does not guarantee universal implementation.
- Feature being discussed: Bubble support alone cannot tell you whether the complete Conversations notification experience is available or equivalent.
