Samsung is not confirmed to be moving all phone production out of Vietnam. Instead, it is building a more distributed manufacturing network, expanding India’s role while keeping Vietnam as a huge production and export base. At the same time, Samsung plans to convert all of its manufacturing operations to “AI-Driven Factories” by 2030, using software, digital twins and AI agents to identify problems earlier and keep materials, assembly and shipping moving.
What Samsung is changing
Samsung’s response has two parts that address different kinds of bottlenecks. Geographic diversification reduces dependence on one country or factory network. Factory automation is intended to reduce delays and errors inside each site.

India is becoming a larger production and design hub
Samsung’s India strategy says the coming decade will bring more products built and designed in India, including smartphones. A Samsung executive has also said that some smartphones destined for the United States are already manufactured at the company’s India factory.
That makes India an active part of Samsung’s phone supply chain, not merely a future possibility. It does not establish that every Galaxy model, or a fixed percentage of any model, is made there. Samsung has not published a model-by-model country allocation in the evidence available for this report.

Vietnam remains a core manufacturing base
Vietnam is still one of Samsung’s most financially significant production locations. Vietnam Government News reported that Samsung’s Vietnamese mobile-phone entities reached US$500 billion in cumulative exports by the end of June 2026. The same report, citing Samsung’s half-year report, put revenue from Samsung manufacturing units in Vietnam at approximately US$35.2 billion in the first half of 2026, up 21% year over year.
Those figures are inconsistent with a complete or imminent withdrawal from Vietnam. They show why Samsung can diversify without abandoning an established high-volume network.

How the AI-Driven Factory plan is supposed to work
In February 2026, Samsung announced a goal of transitioning all manufacturing operations to “AI-Driven Factories” by 2030. The plan covers the full flow of a product through a plant:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Inbound-material logistics: coordinating parts and materials before they reach production lines.
- Production: monitoring operations and adjusting processes as conditions change.
- Quality inspection: detecting defects and process drift earlier.
- Final shipment: managing completed products as they leave the factory.
Samsung says digital-twin simulations will model factory operations before changes are introduced, while specialized AI agents will interpret live operational information and carry out decisions. The stated goals include better pre-validation, quality, efficiency, productivity and workplace safety.

- FIT EVERYONE IN THE SHOT: Group selfies are easier on your Samsung phone with a wider front camera⁴ that captures more of the scene, so no one gets left out of the moment
YoungSoo Lee, Samsung Executive Vice President and Head of Global Technology Research, described the intended direction this way: “The next phase of manufacturing innovation lies in building autonomous environments where AI truly understands operational contexts in real time and independently executes optimal decisions.”
In practical terms, a digital twin can let engineers test a line change, material-routing adjustment or capacity decision in a simulated environment first. AI systems can then watch for deviations during real production. That could shorten the time between a problem appearing and a corrective action, although Samsung has not published a guaranteed reduction in phone lead times or defect rates.

India and Vietnam: what is established
| Comparison point | India | Vietnam |
|---|---|---|
| Role in Samsung’s network | Expanding manufacturing and product-development hub; Samsung says more products, including smartphones, will be built and designed there over the next decade. | Established, very large mobile-phone manufacturing and export base. |
| Evidence of smartphone production | Some smartphones bound for the United States are already made at Samsung’s India factory, according to a Samsung executive and a 2025 government-hosted report. | Samsung’s Vietnamese mobile-phone entities remain major exporters; the cited figures do not provide a model-by-model allocation. |
| Published scale | No comparable cumulative export or first-half manufacturing-revenue figure is stated in the available evidence. | US$500 billion cumulative exports by the end of June 2026; approximately US$35.2 billion in first-half 2026 revenue, up 21% year over year, according to Vietnam Government News citing Samsung’s half-year report. |
| Proximity to target markets | India-based production can serve India and other markets, and some output already serves the United States. The evidence does not specify shipping routes or model allocations. | Vietnam is an established export platform serving international markets. The evidence does not quantify destination shares. |
| Tariff and logistics exposure | Exposure depends on the destination market, product classification and shipping route; no general price or tariff outcome is established. | Exposure likewise depends on destination, trade rules and logistics conditions; a Vietnam production presence does not by itself predict shortages. |
| Supplier depth | Samsung’s expansion indicates a growing local ecosystem, but no supplier-count comparison is provided. | The manufacturing base is mature enough to support the reported export scale, but no directly comparable supplier metric is provided. |
| Automation maturity under the announced plan | Planned participation in Samsung’s company-wide AI-Driven Factory transition, targeted for completion by 2030. | Also covered by the same company-wide 2030 target; no country-specific rollout schedule is stated. |
Why diversification can reduce bottlenecks
A single-country production model can be disrupted by transport delays, component shortages, local restrictions, labor constraints or a sudden demand surge. Having qualified capacity in more than one country gives Samsung additional options for balancing production, subject to tooling, certification, component availability and the requirements of each market.
Samsung Mobile Experience COO Won-Joon Choi said in a government-hosted 2025 report: “We have long been seeking diversification so I can tell you that for the near-term, there has been no production disruptions.” The same report states that Samsung was already manufacturing some smartphones bound for the United States at its India factory.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
Diversification is not the same as instant substitution. A factory cannot necessarily switch to another Galaxy model without compatible equipment, software, suppliers, regulatory approvals and trained workers. Samsung has not disclosed how quickly a particular model could be moved between Vietnam and India.
What this could mean for Galaxy buyers
Availability
A broader network and earlier defect detection could make Samsung more resilient when one site or route encounters trouble. It does not guarantee that a specific phone will be in stock, because availability also depends on demand forecasts, components, carrier orders and local distribution.
Prices
Moving assembly between countries does not automatically make a phone cheaper. Retail pricing also reflects components, research and development, software support, taxes, tariffs, exchange rates, distribution and retailer strategy. No evidence here establishes a price cut tied to India production or AI-Driven Factories.
Country of assembly
The country printed on a phone or its packaging may vary by model, market and production run. It should not be used to infer a universal “made in India” or “made in Vietnam” rule for the Galaxy range.
What to watch through 2030
- Samsung’s disclosures about which product families and markets are supplied from India.
- Country-specific progress reports on the AI-Driven Factory program, rather than the company-wide target alone.
- Evidence that digital-twin testing and AI inspection have improved measurable factory outcomes, such as fewer defects or shorter internal cycle times.
- Whether Vietnam’s export and revenue scale remains stable as India’s capacity grows.
- Model-level availability and pricing in each market, which cannot be inferred from factory announcements.
The bottom line for the supply chain
Samsung’s documented strategy is to spread risk across manufacturing sites while making those sites more automated and responsive. India is taking on more smartphone production and design work, including some US-bound phones, but Vietnam remains a central, high-volume base. The 2030 AI-Driven Factory plan may reduce friction inside factories; it is not proof that any particular Galaxy phone will arrive sooner, cost less or be more reliable.
