To disconnect a VPN on most Samsung Galaxy phones, open Settings > Connections > More connection settings > VPN, select the active VPN, then turn it off. If it reconnects, check that VPN’s Always-on VPN setting. Menu labels and controls can vary by model, Android version, carrier, and VPN app.
Disconnect a VPN saved in your Samsung settings

Tap Connections, then More connection settings.

Select the active VPN profile or open its settings, then tap the control to turn the VPN off.

Disconnect a VPN managed by its app
If the VPN is controlled by a provider app, open that app and use its disconnect control. Samsung supports both VPN apps and VPN settings entered directly on the device. Editing an app-managed VPN may open the app, and its controls may not appear in the same place as a saved system profile.

Stop the VPN from reconnecting automatically
In the selected VPN’s settings, look for Always-on VPN and turn it off if you do not want that VPN to reconnect automatically. Android Help notes that an always-on VPN notification can remain when the connection stops working; reconnecting or disabling always-on for that VPN can clear the condition. App-managed VPNs may not expose this system option.
Turn off versus forget a VPN profile
Turn off disconnects the VPN while keeping its saved profile. Forget removes the saved VPN network. Use Forget only if you intend to remove the profile; it is not necessary for a temporary disconnect. Android Help distinguishes these controls.

Check whether the connection is Samsung Secure Wi-Fi
Samsung Secure Wi-Fi is a separate feature, not simply another regular VPN profile. Open Settings > Security and privacy > Secure Wi-Fi to find its controls. Its availability and behavior can vary by phone, country, carrier, and network environment.

Samsung documents Erase personal data as the option that turns off Secure Wi-Fi by deleting its data. Do not use that option as a routine disconnect unless you intend to erase that data. See Samsung’s Secure Wi-Fi instructions.

If hotspot sharing fails
As one troubleshooting step, temporarily disconnect the VPN and try hotspot sharing again. Samsung notes that a VPN service may need to be disabled before tethering, but this is not a rule that every VPN blocks hotspots. Samsung’s hotspot troubleshooting guidance presents it as a possible fix.
