Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →A Samsung Galaxy tablet can feel slow because of outdated software, background apps, limited available memory, a troublesome downloaded app, or a temporary system error. The symptom matters: lag across the whole tablet calls for different checks than one app that freezes or a page that loads slowly because of the internet connection. Start with a restart, Device care, and software updates; then narrow the cause if the slowdown continues. Menus and available features vary by model and software version.
First identify what feels slow
Notice whether the slowdown affects the whole tablet or just one activity. If several apps and menus respond slowly, check background activity, memory, software, and temporary system issues. If only one app is affected, focus on that app. If apps work normally but websites or online content load slowly, the connection may be the issue rather than tablet performance.

- Whole-tablet lag: Start with a restart and Device care.
- One app: Update it and consider clearing its cache.
- Online content only: Check the connection before changing tablet settings.
Try the low-risk checks first
Restart the tablet
Restarting can clear a temporary system problem. If the tablet is responsive, use its power menu to restart; if it has stopped responding, consult Samsung’s model-specific instructions for restarting it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsClose unused apps and check Device care
Open Settings > Device care, if available, to review the tablet’s battery, storage, and RAM. Use its memory controls to stop background apps, and review storage categories to identify files you can safely delete. Removing files is a choice, not a speed fix to apply blindly: check what they are before deleting them. The exact screen and options can differ by model and software version. Samsung explains the feature in its guide to Device care memory and storage management.

Install available software updates
Outdated system software or apps may contribute to sluggishness. Check for a tablet software update in Settings; menu labels and update availability can vary by model, region, and software version. Also check the app store you use for updates to installed apps. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance covers slow or unresponsive Galaxy devices and notes that update steps can vary.
If only one app is slow, clear its cache
An app’s cached files can be cleared without choosing the stronger reset of clearing its data. The path is generally Settings > Apps > [app name] > Storage > Clear cache, though labels may differ. If the issue remains, clearing data may reset the app to its default state and remove settings or data saved in it. Before doing that, make sure you can sign back in and do not need app-local information. See Samsung’s explanation of clearing app cache and data.

Use Safe mode to check for a downloaded app
If broad lag persists, Safe mode can help determine whether a downloaded app is involved. It disables downloaded apps temporarily. If the tablet runs normally in Safe mode, a downloaded app is a likely cause; that result is a clue, not proof of which app is responsible. Restart normally and review recently installed or updated apps, removing or updating likely candidates one at a time. Samsung’s Galaxy Safe mode and app troubleshooting guidance describes the diagnostic approach. Safe mode entry steps vary by model.
When the slowdown persists
If restarting, Device care, updates, app-specific checks, and Safe mode do not help, use Samsung support for your exact tablet model and software version. Samsung’s diagnostics and troubleshooting options may vary by device. Persistent lag alone does not establish a hardware fault, and the available guidance does not make a factory reset a guaranteed fix.
