Mortal Shell II has eight permanent Shells, but the available official descriptions do not provide a complete, current ability catalog for all eight. The official site confirms the eight-Shell count; an independent guide names the roster as Tiel, Proxima, Eredrim, Gragu, Smert, Sester Genessa, Lazlo, and Sariel. Harros is described separately as the prologue Shell. Here is what the available evidence says about each warrior—and where a precise build or tier-list claim would go beyond it.
What a Shell changes in Mortal Shell II
A Shell is a possessed warrior whose innate strengths and abilities shape how combat feels. Your choice is one part of a build, not the whole build: weapons and upgrades offer additional ways to customize combat, and a launch-period review describes Shells and weapons as mixable.

The combat system has no stamina gauge. The official game description instead emphasizes breaking enemy posture, creating openings for critical strikes, and using expanded execution options; it also mentions sidearms and extensive upgrades. That means Shell selection should be considered alongside the weapon and upgrade choices you make, rather than treated as a standalone class with a fixed weapon.
PlayStation describes a compact open world of winding paths where exploration can reveal warriors, story elements, weapons, upgrades, and curiosities. Its product page lists more than 80 dungeons. Those are content descriptions, not evidence that one Shell is best for any particular dungeon or encounter.

The eight permanent Shells: what is established
The official site confirms eight playable Shells, while the names below come from an independent guide. The official gameplay reveal specifically names Tiel, Eredrim, and Proxima. For the other Shells, the evidence summarized here establishes roster membership or references in patch notes, not a complete player-facing ability kit.
| Shell | What is established | What remains uncertain |
|---|---|---|
| Tiel the Acolyte | A launch-period review reports that a perfect dodge can turn Tiel invisible. | That observation does not establish the full ability tree, current ability names, or how the effect works in the current build. |
| Proxima the Broodseeker | A launch-period review describes lightning attacks that can stagger and pull lighter enemies, or propel Proxima toward larger targets. It also reports a chance to halve incoming damage. | These are review observations, not a complete current kit description; exact conditions and present-day effects need in-game verification. |
| Eredrim the Venerable | Named in the official gameplay reveal. | The official descriptions reviewed do not explain his complete ability kit or a specific role. |
| Gragu the Insatiable | A launch-period review describes a Resonant Heart that charges through kills. | This does not establish his full healing or ability system, or how it works in the current build. |
| Smert the Apostate | Included in the independent guide’s eight-Shell roster. | Exact current abilities and a distinct playstyle are not established in the sources summarized here. |
| Sester Genessa the Wayward | Included in the guide’s roster; official patch notes refer to Genessa’s Shell-related systems and abilities. | The references do not provide a complete current ability kit or a supported role comparison. |
| Lazlo the Justiciar | Included in the guide’s roster; official patch notes report fixing a Lazlo perk glitch. | The patch reference does not establish his exact current abilities or playstyle. |
| Sariel the Endless | Included in the guide’s roster; official patch notes document changes to Sariel abilities. | The notes confirm abilities exist but do not supply a complete, current player-facing description. |
The distinction matters: the official count and reveal names are stronger evidence than the guide’s full roster, and neither roster membership nor a patch-note mention is enough to infer a Shell’s strengths. Harros is separate: the independent guide describes him as a prologue Shell, not one of the eight permanent Shells.

Three Shells with reported ability examples
Tiel: a dodge-linked example
The launch-period review’s reported perfect-dodge invisibility effect suggests a connection between evasion and a temporary defensive or repositioning opportunity. Treat that as a clue for what to watch for in play, not as proof of Tiel’s complete role or a guarantee that the effect remains unchanged.
Proxima: lightning and disruption examples
The same review describes lightning attacks with different reported outcomes depending on the target: staggering or pulling lighter enemies, and launching Proxima toward larger ones. It also reports a chance to halve incoming damage. Together these observations point to possible crowd-control and engagement tools, but the review does not establish activation conditions, frequency, upgrade interactions, or current balance.

Gragu: a kill-charged resource example
The review reports that Gragu’s Resonant Heart charges through kills. That is evidence of a kill-linked resource mechanic, not a complete account of how the Heart is spent, whether it heals, or how its upgrades work. Check the ability description in your game before planning around it.
How to choose a Shell without a reliable tier list
The available evidence is not enough to rank all eight Shells. To compare them in your current game, examine the actual ability descriptions and test the dimensions that affect your own approach:

- Survivability: identify the Shell’s defensive tools and the conditions needed to activate them.
- Mobility and access: check whether an ability changes dodging, positioning, or the way you reach a target.
- Stagger and control: note whether the kit interrupts, pulls, or otherwise creates openings against particular enemy types.
- Reliable damage windows: look at how the Shell helps you exploit posture breaks and land critical strikes.
- Resource demands: find out what fuels each ability, how it is spent, and whether ordinary play replenishes it.
- Upgrade investment: compare the upgrades required to unlock the abilities you actually want.
Then pair the Shell with a weapon that supports your preferred openings. Because Shell and weapon choice are described as mixable, do not assume that a weapon shown with a character defines that character’s only viable setup.

Why ability details should be checked against your game version
Mortal Shell II launched worldwide on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox on August 20, 2026, according to the developer and publisher’s launch announcement. Cold Symmetry’s official Steam news records a week-one update that added a way to respec a Shell and changed progression economies, followed by later fixes and adjustments involving Shell abilities. The latest dated hotfix visible in the official Steam news archive reviewed was September 24, 2026; that archive date should not be treated as proof that no later update exists.

For a current build, read the Shell’s in-game ability text and check the game’s official patch notes for later changes before relying on an exact effect, resource cost, unlock condition, or balance claim. This is especially important when following an older guide or review: the launch-period ability examples above may not reflect every later adjustment.
