1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSamsung announced Galaxy SmartTag3 on September 30, 2026, with a smaller, lighter design and a new Place Notification feature that can alert you when a tagged item enters or leaves an area you define. Samsung also says the tracker supports core finding and sharing on supported Galaxy and iOS devices—but several features, including Compass View and Left Behind Alert, are unavailable on iOS.
What’s new in Galaxy SmartTag3?
Samsung says SmartTag3 is approximately 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than its previous-generation tracker. The announcement does not give physical dimensions, so those percentages do not establish how it compares in size with other trackers.

The headline software addition is Place Notification: set an area and receive an alert when the tagged item enters or exits it. Samsung describes the feature as a trial. It also cautions that a displayed location can differ from the item’s actual location depending on its surroundings.
Samsung says the tag can use the Galaxy Find Network, with more than 900 million participating Galaxy devices worldwide acting as finding nodes. That is Samsung’s reported figure, not an independent count. Updates depend on nearby participating devices, network and device settings, and regional conditions; this is not a continuous GPS connection. Movement alerts may be delayed or may not arrive when nearby network devices are unavailable or conditions interfere.

Does Galaxy SmartTag3 work with an iPhone?
Samsung says SmartTag3 is its first Galaxy SmartTag model with cross-operating-system support for core finding and sharing through SmartThings Find on supported Galaxy and iOS devices. That does not mean the feature set is the same on both platforms. Samsung lists Compass View, Ring Phone, and Left Behind Alert as unavailable on iOS.
For the broader safety context, Apple said in May 2024 that iOS 17.5 and Android 6.0 or later were implementing cross-platform alerts for unknown compatible Bluetooth trackers observed moving with someone over time. Apple describes ways on iPhone to view a tracker identifier, play a sound, and disable a tracker. Those are general unwanted-tracker protections, not a description of SmartTag3’s own finding features.

How finding and proximity features work
Compass View and supported phones
Samsung says Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding enables Compass View to guide users by distance and direction up to 60 meters in line-of-sight conditions, with UWB offering greater precision nearby. Obstacles and nearby electronics can reduce range and accuracy. Compass View requires a supported Galaxy device running Android 12 or later and is unavailable on iOS. Samsung’s announcement specifically lists the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, S26 Ultra, and S26 Plus for Channel Sounding support; support on additional devices may come later.
Other useful functions
- NFC Lost Mode: After registering contact information or a short message in SmartThings, a person with a compatible, internet-connected device can scan the tag to see it.
- Button routines: The tag’s button can trigger preset routines for compatible connected devices.
- Location History: Samsung says SmartThings Find can keep location history for up to seven days. Samsung says location data is encrypted.
Battery life, water resistance and limitations
Replaceable battery and estimated life
SmartTag3 uses a replaceable CR2032 battery, according to Samsung. Samsung estimates up to 550 days under standard usage and up to 790 days in Power Saving Mode. These are simulated internal-lab estimates using a pre-release device and the included battery, not guaranteed runtimes. Actual life depends on use, environment, battery maker, and other factors.

Power Saving Mode disables some functions. Samsung says Compass View, volume and ringtone settings, and other features may be inaccessible in that mode, leaving basic Bluetooth LE finding.
Water resistance and attachment safety
Samsung says the tracker has an IP67 rating, which it defines as resistance to water at a depth of one meter for up to 30 minutes. Water resistance can diminish over time, and Samsung does not advise using the tag at the beach or pool.

Samsung warns that a tracker or its attachment could detach and pose a swallowing hazard to small children or pets. If you attach one to a pet collar, secure it carefully and inspect the attachment. SmartTag3 is an item finder with proximity and network limitations, not a substitute for supervising a pet or a guarantee of recovery if something is stolen.
When does Galaxy SmartTag3 go on sale, and how much does it cost?
Samsung’s announced dates and U.S. prices are plans, not confirmation of stock. Its Korea launch is scheduled for October 7, 2026. Samsung’s U.S. newsroom says availability is planned by early November 2026, at $29.99 for one tracker or $99.99 for a four-pack, in White and Black. Samsung says additional markets will follow in 2027. Check Samsung or local retailer listings for current availability.

What the announcement does—and doesn’t—establish
Samsung’s announcement supplies specifications, feature descriptions, and internal battery estimates, but it is not an independent assessment of real-world location accuracy or reliability. Network finding depends on nearby participating devices and other conditions, while Place Notification is a trial feature. Those qualifications matter if you are deciding whether the tag can reliably alert you or recover a missing item.
