Windows 11 version 26H2 is the last Windows version Microsoft says will support PCs with a Snapdragon 850 processor. That is an official cutoff for future Windows versions—not proof that a later release could never run on the hardware. Microsoft has not explained why support ends.
What the Snapdragon 850 cutoff means
Microsoft’s lifecycle pages state: “Windows 11, version 26H2 is the last version that will support devices with Snapdragon 850 processors.” The notice appears on the pages for Windows 11 Home and Pro, Windows 11 Enterprise and Education, and Windows 11 IoT Enterprise.

For an affected PC, this means 26H2 is the final feature-version upgrade covered by Microsoft’s stated processor support policy. The cutoff does not itself end support for 26H2, nor does it establish that later Windows releases are technically incapable of running on a Snapdragon 850. It means Microsoft does not list those devices as supported for a later Windows version.

Will a Snapdragon 850 laptop get the next Windows update?
Microsoft announced the Windows 11 2026 Update, version 26H2, as generally available on September 29, 2026. It is available to eligible devices running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2. For eligible PCs already on those releases, Microsoft describes 26H2 as an enablement package using the same servicing branch and codebase.

That availability statement does not guarantee that every Snapdragon 850 model can install 26H2. Eligibility and device-specific support matter, so check Windows Update and consult the PC manufacturer’s update and driver guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

The policy makes 26H2 the last supported version for Snapdragon 850, but “27H2” should be treated as a reported or inferred label, not a confirmed Microsoft product name in those materials.

Do not confuse 26H1 with the update for existing PCs
Windows 11 version 26H1 is a separate release for select new devices. Microsoft says it is not offered as an in-place update for existing 24H2 or 25H2 PCs, and devices on 26H1 will not receive the next annual feature update planned for the second half of 2026. Microsoft says those devices will have an update path in a future Windows release. The first 26H1 devices use Snapdragon X2 processors.
How to check your PC’s processor, edition and version
- Open Settings → System → About.
- Check the processor entry to see whether it identifies a Snapdragon 850, and note the Windows edition and version shown on the page.
- Use Windows Update to check whether version 26H2 is offered to the device.
- For model-specific eligibility, drivers or update advice, check the PC maker’s support information. Microsoft’s supported Qualcomm processors page also directs users to hardware vendors for device-specific support.
Microsoft’s general Qualcomm processor list includes Snapdragon 850 and explains that listed processors represent models meeting the minimum floor for supported generations. That list was last updated October 30, 2025 and may lag current offerings. The later, more specific lifecycle notice is the relevant source for the last Windows version Microsoft says supports Snapdragon 850.

Why is Microsoft ending Snapdragon 850 support?
Microsoft’s policy notice does not give a reason. Windows Central’s September 30, 2026 report also says the rationale is unclear. Explanations involving instruction sets, emulation or platform architecture remain speculation unless Microsoft provides confirmation.

Does this mean later Windows versions cannot run on Snapdragon 850?
No such technical conclusion follows from the support policy. Windows Central notes that an unsupported processor might still run a future version if requirements are bypassed, but the cited coverage does not establish that a bypass will work for Snapdragon 850, and no safe or verified procedure is available here. Do not treat possible installation as a compatibility guarantee or as Microsoft-supported use.

What Snapdragon 850 owners should do
- If the PC is working well: Check whether 26H2 is offered and use the end date for your Windows edition to plan. The cutoff is not, by itself, a requirement to replace the computer immediately.
- If 26H2 is not offered: Check your manufacturer’s guidance for the exact model, including drivers and update eligibility.
- If you are already shopping for a replacement: Snapdragon X2 is used in the first devices for Windows 11 26H1, but that fact alone does not establish support details for any particular laptop. Verify the exact model’s Windows and driver support before buying.
What is not yet established
- Microsoft has not stated the reason for ending Snapdragon 850 support.
- The cited sources do not verify whether a later Windows release can be made to run on the processor by bypassing requirements.
- No credible figure is available in the cited sources for how many Snapdragon 850 PCs remain in use.
