Sleep mode is a bedtime-focused mode that can combine Do not disturb with other phone changes; Do not disturb (DND) is the setting for managing interruptions. Use DND by itself when you want to silence alerts without changing how the phone looks or behaves in other ways. Choose Sleep mode for a recurring bedtime setup that may also adjust the display, sound, or power settings.
What’s the difference between Sleep mode and Do not disturb on Samsung?
DND focuses on calls, alerts, and notifications. You can set schedules and choose which people, apps, alarms, and sounds are allowed through. Samsung describes Sleep mode as a broader bedtime option: it can enable DND and may also apply other changes, such as grayscale, dark mode, Eye comfort shield, sound settings, or power saving. Which extra options appear depends on the Galaxy device and software.

Does Sleep mode turn on Do not disturb?
It can. Samsung’s Sleep mode setup includes a control for enabling DND, and Samsung also describes DND as an action that can be added to a custom mode. Check the Sleep mode or mode settings on your phone to see whether DND is selected; do not assume it is active just because Sleep mode is on. Will my alarm still go off in Do not disturb?
DND has configurable exceptions for alarms and sounds, so the result depends on the settings you selected. Open DND’s allowed-items or exceptions controls and confirm that alarms are permitted if you rely on one. Also check any Sleep mode settings that may affect sound or volume. (Samsung US support)

Can I let favorite contacts call me while Do not disturb is on?
DND lets you configure which calls and messages can get through. Choose the people or categories you want to allow in the DND exceptions, then verify that the rule matches what you mean by “favorite”—the available choices and labels can differ by device. If Sleep mode activates DND, review the active DND exceptions there as well. (Samsung US support)
How do I schedule Do not disturb at night on a Galaxy phone?
- Open Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb. On some Galaxy phones, you can also open DND from Quick Settings or find it by searching Settings. (Samsung US support)
- Open the schedules control and add or select a schedule for the hours you want. Samsung supports recurring schedules; the control’s name and placement may vary.
- Review the allowed calls, messages, apps, alarms, and sounds so the schedule behaves as intended.
- Save or enable the schedule, then check the DND indicator or setting when the schedule should be active.
For a bedtime setup that may also change display or sound settings, configure Sleep mode through the Digital Wellbeing or Modes and Routines controls available on your phone. Why don’t I see Sleep mode in Settings?
Feature availability, menu names, and layouts can vary by Galaxy model, software version, app, and market. Search Settings for “Sleep mode” or “Do not disturb”; you can also look under Digital Wellbeing or Modes and Routines.
