As of October 3, 2026, Huawei lists a high-resolution stabilized telephoto camera and a variable-aperture main camera; Samsung lists a 200 MP main camera and two dedicated telephoto cameras. Those differences point to distinct strengths on paper, but do not show which phone produces better photos in real scenes.
What the camera specifications show
Huawei’s official specifications are for the China-market Mate 90 Pro Max. Samsung’s figures below are from its Galaxy S26 Ultra announcement. The hardware is useful for understanding each phone’s camera system, but it is not a substitute for matched image samples.

Which phone looks better for each kind of shot?
Main-camera photos
Huawei lists a 50 MP main camera with a variable f/1.4–f/4.0 aperture, OIS and an RYYB sensor. Samsung lists a 200 MP f/1.4 wide camera. These specifications describe different sensor and lens designs, not a tested quality ranking. They do not establish which phone captures more detail, handles highlights better or produces more natural color.

Zoom and distant subjects
Huawei’s 200 MP figure belongs to its stabilized telephoto camera, while Samsung’s 200 MP figure belongs to its main wide camera. Samsung separately lists 3x and 5x optical telephoto options; Huawei lists approximate 4x optical zoom and 8x optical-quality zoom. The different camera roles and zoom labels make a simple megapixel or zoom-number comparison misleading. Real detail at a matched framing, especially in lower light, would need to be judged from comparable photos.
Ultrawide, macro and portraits
The listed ultrawides are 40 MP on Huawei and 50 MP on Samsung, but the figures alone say nothing conclusive about edge sharpness, distortion or color. Huawei specifically lists tele-macro capability. Neither set of specifications establishes which phone renders portraits or skin tones more convincingly.

Video
Huawei lists rear video recording up to 4K. The cited Samsung launch source does not provide a complete set of video modes, so these materials do not support a direct video-feature comparison or a stabilization verdict.

What would establish a real camera winner?
A useful comparison needs photos and video of the same scenes, captured with the same framing and lighting where possible. It should assess:

- Indoor and night photos, including noise and movement blur.
- Ultrawide distortion and edge detail.
- Portrait rendering and skin tones.
- Telephoto detail at matched framing, and macro focus performance.
- Moving subjects, selfie consistency and video stabilization, focus transitions, exposure, and available recording modes.
Default color and image processing should count as part of the experience, not be dismissed as separate from camera quality. Any comparison should also disclose whether images came from retail phones or manufacturer-provided samples. No independent head-to-head score or controlled comparison is established by the cited official materials.
