If Samsung autocorrect is not working, first identify what is missing: word suggestions, automatic word replacement, or misspelling corrections. Samsung Keyboard treats these as separate features, so a quick check of the matching setting is usually a better first step than resetting the keyboard or phone.
First, identify which autocorrect feature is failing
“Autocorrect” can refer to several Samsung Keyboard controls. Match the symptom before changing settings:

- No suggestions appear above the keyboard: check Predictive text.
- Suggestions appear, but the word is not automatically replaced: check Auto replace.
- Misspellings are not underlined or correction suggestions are absent: check Auto spell check or, on some versions, Suggest text corrections.
Samsung says Predictive text learns typing habits to offer personalized vocabulary suggestions. Auto spell check underlines misspelled words in red and suggests likely corrections. The labels and available options can vary by model and software version; Samsung notes that some predictive-text options are unavailable on older devices and operating systems. Check Samsung Keyboard and the language setting
Confirm the active keyboard
If you want Samsung Keyboard’s correction features, make sure it is the default. Open Settings > General management > Keyboard list and default > Default keyboard, then choose Samsung Keyboard. If another keyboard is selected, its settings control suggestions and corrections instead. Samsung advises contacting the third-party keyboard’s developer for issues with that keyboard. Enable Predictive text for the language you type in
Open Samsung Keyboard settings by tapping the keyboard’s gear icon, or go to Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings. Turn on Predictive text and check that the language you are using is enabled in the keyboard’s language settings. On some devices, the option may be under Smart typing or a path such as Language and input > On-screen keyboard > Samsung Keyboard. If the menu names differ, search Settings for “Samsung Keyboard” or “Predictive text.”
Match the setting to the symptom
Suggestions are missing
Turn on Predictive text. If it is already enabled, verify that the relevant language is active and test in another app. This separates a keyboard-wide issue from an app-specific one.

A suggested word is not being inserted
Check Auto replace and its setting for the language in use. Samsung describes the highlighted candidate as being inserted when you press the spacebar or Enter; if you expect an automatic replacement, check that feature rather than Predictive text alone.

Check Auto spell check. Depending on the software version, related correction controls may instead appear as Suggest text corrections. Samsung Canada also documents a Manage apps control for choosing which apps receive text corrections. That guidance is for devices sold in Canada, and Samsung notes that settings and screens vary by country. Samsung Canada’s settings guide explains the app-level option.

If the problem happens only in certain apps
Try typing in a second app with the same keyboard and language. If corrections work there but not in one app, look for Suggest text corrections or Manage apps in Samsung Keyboard settings, where available. Also check whether the affected app has its own text-entry settings. Because app support and Samsung’s menu labels vary, a setting that works in one app may not produce identical behavior in another.
Remove an unwanted learned suggestion without wiping the keyboard
Remove one word
When the unwanted word appears in the Samsung Keyboard suggestion bar, touch and hold it, then tap Remove. This targets a single suggestion.

Clear personalized predictions in bulk
To erase learned prediction history, open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Reset to default settings > Erase personalized predictions. Some versions use a label such as Clear personalised data. This is different from clearing all Samsung Keyboard app data, which removes keyboard settings and saved words as well as personalized information.
If the keyboard itself is glitching
If the keyboard freezes, stops responding, or behaves erratically beyond autocorrect, follow Samsung’s less destructive troubleshooting steps before considering a device reset:

- Optimize the device: use the Device care option in Settings, if available.
- Restart the phone or tablet.
- Clear Samsung Keyboard data: use the keyboard’s app storage controls in Settings. This removes keyboard settings, including saved words, so use it only if you accept that loss.
- Check for software updates: open Settings > Software update and install an available update, following the device’s prompts.
- Test in Safe mode: if the keyboard works normally there, a third-party app may be interfering. Samsung recommends removing recently installed apps one at a time and retesting.
Menu paths can differ by device and software version. Samsung’s keyboard troubleshooting guidance describes these checks and their order.
Keep factory reset as a last resort
A factory reset erases device data, not just keyboard preferences. Samsung presents it as a last-resort troubleshooting step; back up important data before proceeding. For persistent problems, contact Samsung Support or use the Samsung Members app rather than resetting the device just to restore autocorrect.
