A missing icon on a Samsung Galaxy does not necessarily mean its app was deleted. First check whether the shortcut was removed from the Home screen, the app was hidden, or the app was disabled or uninstalled; each requires a different fix.
First, identify what happened to the app
On a Samsung phone, an icon on the Home screen is usually a shortcut to an app. Removing that shortcut is different from uninstalling the app: a removed shortcut can leave the app available in the Apps screen. Samsung’s support instructions describe these as distinct actions.

Samsung notes that screen names and menu paths can differ by model and software version. If a label below is not present, look for an equivalent Home screen or Apps setting, or consult Samsung’s device-specific support.

Restore a shortcut that was removed from the Home screen
- From the Home screen, swipe up to open the Apps screen.
- Find the app. If there is a search field or app-list filter, use it to locate the name.
- Touch and hold the app icon, then tap Add to Home.
The app should appear as a shortcut on a Home screen page. Samsung’s missing app-icon guidance explains that removing an icon from Home does not by itself remove the app from Apps.

Show an app that was hidden
Samsung’s usual path is Settings > Home screen > Hide apps on Home and Apps screens. Find the app in the hidden list, deselect it, and confirm the change. Depending on the device, the same control may be available through the Apps screen’s settings. Samsung’s regional guidance covers the hidden-app setting; wording and placement can vary.
Check whether the app is disabled or uninstalled
If it is listed in Settings
Open Settings > Apps and search for the app. Open its app-info page and look for an Enable option. If available, tap it; the app can then be opened from Apps and its shortcut added to Home. Not every app or device shows the same controls.

If it is not listed among installed apps
If the app is absent from Settings > Apps, it may have been removed. Reinstall it from the app store where you originally downloaded it. Samsung’s missing-shortcut troubleshooting recommends downloading an app again when it has been removed.
For games, also check Gaming Hub or Game Launcher: some games may be grouped there rather than appearing where you expect in the app list. If the app still seems missing, check for another Home screen page or a folder, and make sure the Apps list is not filtered. Samsung’s troubleshooting guide also identifies parental controls as a possible factor.

Why the My Files Recycle bin will not restore an app icon
The Recycle bin in My Files is for deleted files, not Home screen shortcuts or installed apps. Samsung’s One UI 6 file-recovery guidance says deleted items in that bin are automatically permanently deleted after 30 days. That retention period applies to file recovery; it does not provide a way to retrieve an app icon.

Do not start by clearing One UI Home data or factory-resetting the phone. Either can disrupt the Home screen layout, and a factory reset can remove data. If the checks above do not solve the issue, back up important data and seek Samsung support guidance before attempting a reset. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance should be followed with your model and software version in mind.
