For a Windows laptop, the quickest way to copy photos from a Samsung Galaxy A14 is to connect it with a data-capable USB cable, allow access on the phone, and copy the images from the DCIM folder in File Explorer. If the phone only charges, switch its USB mode to file transfer; if a cable is inconvenient, use Smart Switch or a wireless method.
Copy photos with a USB cable on Windows
- Connect the phone. Use a USB cable that supports data transfer, then unlock the Galaxy A14. If prompted, tap Allow to let the laptop access phone data. Samsung’s photo-transfer instructions describe this permission step.
- Choose file-transfer mode. If the A14 is charging but its files do not appear, swipe down from the top of the phone screen, tap the Android System USB notification, and select Transferring files / Android Auto. Depending on the wording shown, the option may be labeled MTP or file transfer. See Samsung’s USB transfer guidance.
- Open the phone in File Explorer. On the laptop, open File Explorer, choose This PC, and open the Galaxy A14.
- Find and copy the pictures. Open Internal storage > DCIM > Camera. Select the photos you want and copy and paste them, or drag them into a folder on the laptop. Samsung notes that photos can be found in the DCIM folder in its support guide.
If the photos were saved to a microSD card, open the card in the phone’s storage list and look in its DCIM folder instead. The available storage setup can vary by A14 model and configuration; consult the Galaxy A14 manual for device-family details.

If the laptop does not show the phone
It charges, but no files appear
Make sure the phone is unlocked, approve the data-access prompt if it appears, and select file transfer or MTP from the Android System USB notification. Charging mode by itself does not expose the photo folders.
Check the cable and port
A cable can charge the phone without carrying data. Try another cable known to support data and a different laptop USB port. If the laptop has USB-C ports only, the cable or an adapter may need to match that connection. Samsung also advises checking cable compatibility in its computer-connection troubleshooting guide.

Consider Windows software issues after basic checks
If a data-capable cable, permission, and file-transfer mode do not resolve the issue, Samsung’s troubleshooting article also discusses USB drivers and Windows media components. Its operating-system-specific advice dates from 2022, so check that the instructions apply to your Windows version before changing system components.
Choose an alternative when USB is not the right fit
| Method | Best for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| USB file copying | Copying selected photos directly to a Windows laptop | Requires a data-capable cable and phone permission; browse Internal storage or the memory card. |
| Smart Switch | A broader backup or phone migration, not just a few pictures | The A14 5G manual describes transfers by USB cable, Wi-Fi, or computer. Samsung’s PC guidance covers backing up phone content, including photos. See the A14 5G manual and Smart Switch backup guidance. |
| Bluetooth | Sending a small selection wirelessly | Pair the phone and PC, choose Receive files on Windows, then select images in Gallery and share by Bluetooth. Computer steps can vary; see Samsung UK’s Bluetooth instructions. |
| Samsung Flow, Quick Share, or cloud storage | Wireless transfers or access across devices | Availability and setup depend on the receiving device, service, and account. Samsung lists these options in its photo-transfer alternatives. |
What to do if your laptop is a Mac
Samsung’s Smart Switch material confirms desktop versions for Windows and Mac, but the cited pages do not provide a current, A14-specific procedure for browsing the phone’s files in macOS. Use Samsung’s Smart Switch guidance for the computer-backup route, and do not assume the Windows File Explorer steps apply to a Mac.
