Choose the Ryzen AI 7 450 when you can find a competitively priced mini PC and want the newer Zen 5/Zen 5c design, Radeon 860M graphics and a published 50 TOPS NPU. Choose the Ryzen 7 8845HS when you want a mini PC that is easier to find today, such as a GMKtec K8 Plus, and the complete system offers better memory, cooling, storage or warranty value. Both processors have eight cores, 16 threads and a maximum boost clock of 5.1 GHz, so those headline figures do not decide the purchase.
The important caveat is that processor specifications do not equal mini-PC performance. Sustained power limits, cooling, RAM configuration, firmware and SSD choice can make one system faster, quieter or more responsive than another using the same chip. There is also no controlled, same-chassis independent benchmark establishing a precise percentage advantage between these two processors.

Ryzen AI 7 450 vs Ryzen 7 8845HS: specifications at a glance
The Ryzen AI 7 450 is a newer-generation mobile processor built from four Zen 5 cores and four compact Zen 5c cores. The Ryzen 7 8845HS is an older Zen 4 design with eight conventional cores. Clock speeds require context. The AI 7 450’s 2.0 GHz base clock and the 8845HS’s 3.8 GHz base clock are measured under different power and design assumptions; they are not a direct prediction of everyday speed. Likewise, a 5.1 GHz boost is a short-duration ceiling reached only when temperature, current and workload conditions allow it.

What the newer Ryzen AI 7 450 platform changes
Zen 5 and Zen 5c in one eight-core processor
The AI 7 450 combines four full-size Zen 5 cores with four Zen 5c cores. It still presents eight cores and 16 threads to Windows or Linux, but the mixed design is intended to balance performance and efficiency within a 28 W default envelope. The processor can be configured from 15 W to 54 W by the system manufacturer, so two mini PCs carrying the same model name may behave differently.
For a mini PC, the lower default envelope can help a manufacturer design a smaller or quieter enclosure. A system allowed to run near the upper end of the 15–54 W range may sustain higher performance, but it also needs a stronger heatsink, fan and power adapter. Check the machine’s sustained package-power setting rather than assuming every AI 7 450 computer runs at 28 W or 54 W.
Radeon 860M integrated graphics
AMD lists Radeon 860M graphics with eight graphics cores and a maximum frequency of 3.1 GHz. That is the stronger paper specification for integrated-graphics gaming in this comparison. Actual frame rates depend on memory bandwidth, dual-channel operation, cooling and the game settings selected. A mini PC with single-channel memory can leave the integrated GPU starved even when the processor specification looks excellent.

The AI 7 450 is specified for up to 50 NPU TOPS and up to 66 overall AI TOPS. TOPS describes the theoretical number of trillion operations per second under the vendor’s measurement conditions; it does not guarantee that an application will run 50 trillion useful operations every second. The operating system, model format, quantization, drivers and application must all use the NPU path.
AMD’s Ryzen AI Software supports ONNX Runtime applications and can offload supported models to the NPU. When an application supports that path, moving inference away from the CPU can leave more CPU capacity for other work and may reduce power use. If the software falls back to the CPU or GPU, the NPU’s published figure has no practical effect on that workload.
What the Ryzen 7 8845HS still does well
A higher 45 W class design
The 8845HS is an eight-core, 16-thread Zen 4 processor with a 45 W stated TDP. Its higher nominal power class gives a mini-PC maker more thermal headroom than a low-power configuration, although the final result depends on the manufacturer’s limits. A well-cooled 8845HS system can sustain demanding compilation, encoding or multitasking for long periods without relying on the brief boost behavior suggested by a 5.1 GHz headline.

More established mini-PC availability
Retail mini PCs based on the 8845HS are easier to identify at present. The GMKtec K8 Plus is an example of a currently listed system using this processor. By contrast, availability of a specific AI 7 450 mini PC was not confirmed in the information available for this comparison. That makes the 8845HS a practical choice when you need a machine now and want a known configuration with published memory, storage and connectivity details.
Integrated Ryzen AI, without a matching TOPS number
The 8845HS includes an integrated Ryzen AI NPU. AMD’s 8040-series announcement confirms the NPU and describes it as enabling larger AI models, but it does not provide a directly comparable TOPS value in the cited specification table. You should therefore verify the exact application and driver support instead of assuming the 8845HS has either the same or a particular fraction of the AI 7 450’s NPU throughput.
CPU performance: what you can and cannot conclude
Everyday office and productivity work
Web browsers, document editing, videoconferencing, terminals and ordinary multitasking rarely keep all 16 threads busy. Either processor has ample CPU resources for these tasks. In this category, 16 GB versus 32 GB of RAM, SSD responsiveness, fan noise and sleep or wake behavior are more noticeable than a theoretical architecture advantage.
Compiling, rendering and long workloads
For software builds, code indexing, virtual machines, batch photo processing and video encoding, sustained power and cooling matter more than the maximum boost number. An AI 7 450 mini PC configured close to its 54 W limit may outperform a quiet 15 W configuration; a 45 W 8845HS system with a large heatsink may outperform a cramped system that repeatedly throttles. Compare independent tests of the exact chassis whenever possible.
Why a percentage winner would be misleading
No apples-to-apples, same-chassis independent benchmark comparing these two processors is available. Without identical RAM, cooling, firmware power limits, storage and operating-system settings, quoting a precise percentage advantage would imply a certainty that has not been established. Treat architecture and TDP as indicators, then judge the complete mini PC.
Integrated-graphics gaming and media playback
Gaming choice
On published specifications, the AI 7 450 is the preferable starting point for integrated-graphics gaming because its Radeon 860M has eight graphics cores and reaches up to 3.1 GHz. That does not establish a frame-rate lead in a particular game. Memory speed and channel configuration are especially important: LPDDR5X-8533 or dual-channel DDR5 can feed the GPU more effectively than a slower or single-channel setup.

For a gaming purchase, look for reviews of the exact mini PC at the resolution and settings you intend to use. Confirm whether the memory is soldered, whether a second module can be installed and whether the cooling profile maintains performance after 20 to 30 minutes rather than only during a short benchmark run.
Video and display duties
Both platforms are suitable for normal desktop video playback and multi-monitor productivity when the mini PC exposes the required outputs. Do not infer the number or version of HDMI, DisplayPort or USB-C display connections from the processor name. Verify the motherboard’s actual ports, supported resolutions and refresh rates, because the OEM can implement fewer outputs than the platform permits.
Local AI: do you need the Ryzen AI NPU?
You need an NPU only when the software you plan to use can dispatch supported operations to it. Examples may include ONNX Runtime applications and operating-system features that explicitly advertise NPU acceleration. A large TOPS number alone does not make an unsupported model faster.

When the AI 7 450 is the better fit
- You have confirmed that your application supports the AMD Ryzen AI NPU or an ONNX Runtime execution provider compatible with it.
- You want the higher published figure of up to 50 NPU TOPS and up to 66 overall AI TOPS.
- You run AI inference alongside browser, office or development tasks and value the possibility of freeing CPU resources.
When the 8845HS is sufficient
- Your workloads run on the CPU or GPU and do not expose an NPU execution path.
- You need a readily available mini PC with documented firmware and community support.
- Your priority is sustained general-purpose performance, memory capacity or a lower system price rather than a specific NPU feature.
Before buying, check the application’s hardware-acceleration documentation, supported model formats and minimum driver version. Ask the mini-PC vendor which Ryzen AI Software package and BIOS version are supplied. If the vendor cannot confirm NPU support, plan around CPU or GPU execution instead of counting the TOPS figure as guaranteed performance.
Compare the complete mini PC, not just the processor
Power limits and cooling
Ask for the sustained CPU package-power limit, not only the processor’s advertised TDP. Inspect the heatsink size, heat pipes, fan intake and exhaust, and whether the BIOS offers quiet, balanced and performance modes. A high-power mode can improve sustained throughput while increasing noise and temperatures. A quiet mode can be preferable for an office or living-room computer even if it sacrifices benchmark speed.
Memory capacity, speed and upgradeability
Confirm the installed capacity, module count and speed. The AI 7 450 supports LPDDR5X-8533 or DDR5-5600, but a particular mini PC may use soldered LPDDR5X, replaceable SO-DIMMs or a lower configured speed. Soldered memory can improve compactness and bandwidth but prevents later upgrades. For development, virtual machines, large browser sessions or local AI models, 32 GB may be more useful than a small CPU advantage.

SSD and expansion
Check the SSD capacity, interface and whether a second M.2 slot or 2.5-inch bay exists. A fast PCIe 4.0 drive can reduce load times, but the controller and thermal design determine sustained transfer behavior. Verify whether the operating-system license, spare drive screws and thermal pad are included before planning an upgrade.
Ports and networking
AMD lists PCIe 4.0 and USB4 support for the AI 7 450 platform, yet OEM implementations can differ. Count the actual USB-A, USB-C, USB4, Ethernet and audio ports on the product page. Confirm whether USB4 supports display output, charging or external graphics in that model. Check Wi-Fi generation, Bluetooth version and Ethernet speed if the machine will serve files, use network storage or drive multiple displays.
Warranty and firmware
A mini PC is a complete computer, so warranty length, return terms, BIOS updates and driver availability matter. Look for a vendor that publishes recovery instructions and replacement procedures. A theoretically faster processor is not a bargain if a firmware issue prevents sleep, memory expansion or reliable external-display operation.

Office, study and home media
Buy either processor and spend the selection effort on 16 GB or 32 GB of RAM, a quiet cooling profile, the display outputs you need and a solid warranty. The 8845HS is attractive when its system is readily available at a good total price. The AI 7 450 is sensible when the newer platform is offered without compromising memory or acoustics.
Software development
Choose the machine with more RAM, a replaceable SSD and dependable sustained cooling. Both processors provide eight cores and 16 threads, which is useful for parallel builds and containers. If two systems are otherwise identical, the AI 7 450’s newer architecture is appealing, but the lack of a controlled comparison means you should not pay a large premium based only on the 5.1 GHz label.
Integrated-graphics gaming
Favor the AI 7 450 on paper because of the Radeon 860M specification, then verify actual game tests for the chassis. Prioritize dual-channel or high-speed memory, fan behavior and the ability to maintain performance over a long session. The 8845HS remains viable for lighter games or systems with a better memory and cooling configuration.

Local AI and creator workflows
Choose the AI 7 450 if your software explicitly supports its NPU path and you value the published 50 NPU TOPS. Choose the 8845HS if your models run on CPU or GPU, or if the available 8845HS system provides substantially better RAM, storage and cooling. NPU marketing cannot compensate for an application that does not use the accelerator.
Small servers and always-on use
For an always-on home server, measure idle power, fan noise, network options and storage expansion. The AI 7 450’s configurable 15–54 W range may allow an efficient configuration, but the actual mini PC’s firmware determines the result. The 8845HS can also be suitable when its system has a well-tuned low-power mode and the ports or drive bays you require.
A practical buying process
- Define the workload. Write down the applications, number of displays, games, AI frameworks and storage devices you will actually use.
- Set non-CPU requirements. Decide the minimum RAM, SSD capacity, USB4 or display support, network speed, noise level and warranty terms.
- Verify the exact processor configuration. Record the advertised sustained or configurable power mode, memory type and whether the RAM is soldered.
- Check software acceleration. For AI, confirm NPU support, ONNX Runtime compatibility and the required driver or BIOS version before treating TOPS as a benefit.
- Compare complete-system prices. Include the operating-system license, RAM and SSD upgrades, shipping, taxes and any replacement charger or mounting kit.
- Read long-duration tests. Prefer reviews that report temperatures, fan noise, power draw and performance after sustained loads, not only a short burst score.
- Confirm availability and returns. The 8845HS has clearly listed systems such as the GMKtec K8 Plus; verify that any AI 7 450 listing is a real, in-stock product with a stated delivery date and return policy.
Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
Choosing by boost clock alone
Both chips advertise up to 5.1 GHz. That figure is a peak condition, not a sustained all-core frequency or a complete performance rating. Use power, cooling and workload-specific testing to make the decision.

Platform support does not guarantee that the OEM exposes every feature. Check the rear-panel diagram and full specification sheet for USB4, PCIe expansion, display outputs and networking.
Ignoring memory configuration
Integrated graphics share system memory. Single-channel RAM, low capacity or soldered modules that cannot be replaced can reduce gaming and multitasking flexibility. Confirm the exact arrangement before ordering.
Paying for an NPU your software cannot use
Ask for a documented application path to the NPU. If the answer is only a TOPS number, assume the workload may run on the CPU or GPU instead.
Confusing a processor launch with product availability
A processor can be announced before a broad range of mini PCs reaches retail. Verify the model number, seller, stock status, included memory and SSD, and warranty for the specific AI 7 450 system.

Buy the Ryzen AI 7 450 when a real mini PC is available at a competitive price, has adequate cooling and memory, and you value the newer Zen 5/Zen 5c platform, Radeon 860M graphics or a supported NPU workflow. Buy the Ryzen 7 8845HS when you want a proven, currently listed mini-PC class, especially if a system such as the GMKtec K8 Plus offers better total-system value. For office work, coding and media, either is capable; make RAM, SSD, acoustics, connectivity and warranty the deciding factors.
