These tools are not interchangeable, and higher torque is not automatically an upgrade.
Which tool should you buy instead?
| Your main task | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Driving screws and other fasteners | A higher-spec impact driver | It keeps the same fastener-focused tool category while offering a higher performance ceiling. Ryobi’s Middle East/Europe HP range page lists up to 300 Nm and 4,000 IPM for a featured model/range; these are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Check Ryobi’s regional impact-driver specifications. |
| Loosening or fastening nuts and bolts, including wheel nuts | An impact wrench | Its square-drive anvil accepts sockets and its higher torque is suited to larger or stubborn fasteners. It can be too aggressive for ordinary screws and delicate work. |
| Drilling holes, particularly in masonry | A hammer drill/driver | It has a drill chuck and, in hammer mode, adds hammering action for masonry drilling. A US example is Ryobi’s ONE+ HP brushless hammer drill and impact driver kit; the listing is regional and does not establish availability elsewhere. |
Impact driver or impact wrench: what is the difference?
An impact driver is built around a ¼-inch internal hex collet for driver bits and is intended for driving screws and fasteners. An impact wrench uses a square-drive anvil for sockets and is designed for nuts and bolts. Ryobi Support Australia describes the driver as a lightweight tool for driving screws and fasteners quickly, while noting that a wrench is generally heavier and delivers significantly more torque. Ryobi’s tool-category explanation also warns that using a wrench on standard screws can snap or strip them, damage the workpiece, and create a safety hazard.

When an impact wrench makes sense
Choose one when your regular jobs involve wheel nuts, large bolts, or other fasteners that call for sockets and more loosening force than a driver is meant to provide. Ryobi’s 2021 EMEA press material gave up to 700 Nm fastening torque and 900 Nm breakaway torque for a specific ONE+ HP impact-wrench model; those are manufacturer claims for that model, not independent measurements or universal wrench figures. See the 2021 EMEA release. Ryobi Support Australia gives a broad category range of 300–2,000 Nm for impact-wrench breakaway torque, not the specification of any one model.

If you buy a wrench, match its drive size to the sockets and task, and use impact-rated sockets. A regular socket is not a substitute for a socket designed for impact-tool use.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
When a stronger impact driver is the better upgrade
If you already use the tool mostly for screws and fasteners, stay in the impact-driver category and compare local brushless or HP models. Ryobi’s Middle East/Europe page lists up to 300 Nm maximum torque and 4,000 impacts per minute for a featured HP option. Those figures are tied to the manufacturer’s regional model/range description; they do not establish that the same specification or SKU is sold in every market. Raw torque figures from different tool categories are not directly comparable, and a larger number alone does not show which tool suits your work.
Is a hammer drill better than an impact driver?
Not for the same job. An impact driver’s rotational impacts help drive fasteners; a hammer drill/driver combines a drill chuck and clutch with a hammer function intended for masonry drilling. If the frustration with your current tool is that it cannot properly drill holes or accept the drill bits you need, a hammer drill/driver is the relevant addition—not a more powerful impact driver or a wrench.

Ryobi’s US listings illustrate this as a separate category: its ONE+ HP brushless hammer drill and impact driver two-tool kit pairs a hammer drill/driver with an impact driver. It is a US product listing, not a globally available bundle or a claim that every buyer needs both tools.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck compatibility before you spend more
- Identify the job first. Screws point to an impact driver, nuts and bolts to an impact wrench, and drilling—especially masonry—to a hammer drill/driver.
- Match the interface and accessory. A ¼-inch hex bit, square-drive socket, and drill chuck serve different purposes. For a wrench, verify socket drive size and use impact-rated sockets.
- Check battery-platform compatibility. Confirm that the exact tool works with the batteries and charger you already own; do not assume compatibility from a similar product name alone.
- Verify the local model number and specifications. Ryobi model numbers, bundles, and product details vary by region. The cited product examples cover US, Australia, and EMEA/Middle East sources, not one worldwide SKU.
- Use the right control for the material. For delicate screws or workpieces, an impact wrench’s added torque can be a liability. A drill/driver’s clutch can help limit driving force; use the tool’s modes and settings appropriate to the material and fastener.
A practical decision
If you regret buying an impact driver because it struggles with bolts, look for a wrench and the correct impact-rated sockets. If it handles your jobs but you want a more capable fastener driver, compare higher-spec impact drivers available in your region. If you meant to drill holes, buy a drill/driver with the right chuck and hammer function for masonry. Without knowing your exact Ryobi model, region, and usual jobs, there is no single “spend more on this” answer.
