As of reporting on October 8, 2026, Yandex said the scale of the damage was still being assessed and that it could not yet confirm whether the data center equipment at Sasovo could be restored.

What was reported, and by whom
Several outlets covered the incident on October 8, but they describe different things: the attack itself, the physical state of the site, and the status of services customers use. The table separates them.

The drone-strike account therefore rests on Reuters’ reporting. Yandex’s own public outage notice described a power outage and did not connect it to a strike.

Where the Sasovo site fits
The affected site is in Sasovo, Ryazan region, at the Sasta industrial plant. Reuters’ reporting, which relays Yandex information, places the site within the company’s wider infrastructure in three ways:
- Five large data centers. Sasovo was one of the company’s five large data centers, as reported by Reuters in 2026.
- Tens of thousands of servers. Reuters described this as the approximate number hosted at Sasovo. It is an approximation, not an inventory.
- Two of three AI-development supercomputers. Two of Yandex’s three AI-development supercomputers are located at Sasovo, per Reuters. Whether either was damaged has not been disclosed.
The significance is concentration. A large amount of computing infrastructure sits at one site, and that site has stopped operating while the company has not yet said how much of its equipment is affected.

Damage and restoration: what Yandex has said
Physical damage
Reuters quoted Yandex as saying: “The scale of the damage to the infrastructure is still being assessed.” The company also said: “For the moment, we cannot confirm whether it is possible to restore the data centre equipment in Sasovo.” Reuters’ October 8 headline put that restoration question at the center of the story. The reporting does not include a timeline for either assessment.

Reuters reported that two of Yandex’s three AI-development supercomputers are housed at Sasovo, and that Yandex had not said whether they were damaged. Their operating status is therefore not established in either direction.

Service impact depends on which service you mean
Reuters’ initial account described core consumer services as unaffected. That is a different scope from cloud infrastructure, and the cloud picture changed as the day went on. The table sets out each scope with its source.

- Check the Yandex Cloud status information for the zone where your resources run.
- If your resources are in the affected zone, use other zones, as the company advised.
- Plan for the possibility that creating new cloud resources is limited, as The Record reported.
- Do not assume the status of a specific product or account from general reports. The reporting does not establish the status of individual cloud products or accounts.
A separate network problem the same day
Kommersant also reported a Qrator Labs network problem that affected access to some major Russian media sites. The company quoted in that account attributed the problem to human error. It is a separate, concurrent incident and is not damage from the Yandex attack, so it should not be counted as part of the Sasovo outage.

What the reporting does not establish
- Nationwide internet disruption. The reporting describes one facility and its cloud zones, not connectivity across Russia.
- Permanent loss of computing capacity or a quantified economic effect. Neither appears in the reporting.
- A restoration date. No date has been reported for restoring the Sasovo equipment or resuming operations there.
- Current service status. The service picture is a snapshot from October 8, 2026, and newer reporting may show different availability.
