The Russell Hobbs Smooth IQ Plus RHC700 is a 2400 W ceramic steam iron with variable steam, spray, steam burst, vertical steaming and automatic shut-off. CHOICE lists it as discontinued, and Australian retailer Andoo says it is no longer available. Those listings suggest it may be difficult to find new, but do not rule out remaining stock or second-hand units. The available sources do not reveal CHOICE’s comparative test scores, so this is a review of its documented features and ownership guidance—not a performance verdict.
What the RHC700 offers
Russell Hobbs’ official instruction and warranty booklet identifies the Smooth IQ Plus as model RHC700. CHOICE lists a ceramic soleplate, 2400 W stated wattage, a 3 m cord, a weight of 1.4 kg and a two-year warranty. The warranty terms and applicable consumer rights depend on the country and purchase circumstances.

Andoo’s retailer listing adds a 315 ml water tank, 40 g/min continuous steam, a 135 g steam burst and a tourmaline-infused ceramic soleplate. It also claims 46% improved glideability. These are retailer-published specifications and claims; the official manual and CHOICE listing do not independently confirm all of them.

CHOICE’s accessible listing does not show its Expert Rating, performance or ease-of-use scores, reliability, satisfaction results, or pros and cons. Without those results or hands-on testing, it would be misleading to call the RHC700 a strong or weak performer. Its published specifications describe the feature set, not how well it irons in comparative tests.

Steam settings and everyday use
The manual describes dry ironing, variable steam, spray mist, a burst of steam and vertical steaming. Follow each garment’s care label when choosing a temperature. For steam ironing, the manual says the temperature must be set above wool; at the lower end of the steam temperature range, reduce the steam setting to help limit water droplets.
If water spotting is a concern, test the spray mist on an inconspicuous part of the fabric first. The manual also says the appliance must be attended while plugged in. Unplug it before filling or emptying, and let it cool before cleaning or putting it away.

Water, self-cleaning and scale
The manual permits tap water but recommends distilled water in hard-water areas. It instructs owners to use the self-clean function at least monthly in normal water areas, and more often where water is hard. The iron also has an anti-scale treatment, but the manual warns not to use descaling solution because it will destroy the incorporated anti-scale agent.

Automatic shut-off and safety
CHOICE lists automatic shut-off after 30 seconds when the iron is horizontal or eight minutes when upright; those timings are also consistent with the official manual. The shut-off is a safety feature, not a substitute for supervision: Russell Hobbs’ manual says, “This appliance must be attended whilst plugged in.”

Is the RHC700 still available?
CHOICE marks the model discontinued, while Andoo says it is no longer available. These reports make it reasonable to expect that buying a new RHC700 may be difficult, but they do not establish that every retailer has run out or that used units cannot be found. Check availability in your market before making a purchase decision.
If you are considering another iron instead, compare its soleplate, weight, cord length, steam output and controls, shut-off behavior, cleaning requirements, warranty in your country and current price. The available information does not establish a direct replacement or prove that any other model’s parts are compatible with the RHC700.
