RuneScape Reignited is a planned fresh-start character type inside the existing RuneScape game, not a separate MMO. Jagex announced it for December 2, 2026, with a new economy and a ten-day offer of access to members’ content. But after players raised concerns about splitting the community and sidelining existing characters, Jagex said on October 6 that it was preparing revisions and would seek feedback by the end of that week. Its original rules are therefore a proposal under review, not a settled design.
What is RuneScape Reignited?
Reignited is a fresh-start character type announced for RuneScape, commonly called RS3. Jagex presented it as a way for new and returning players to begin together, with a separate economy and hiscores and no paid progression advantage. It is part of the existing game rather than a new standalone title. Jagex’s October 3 announcement and FAQ set out the original plan.

The announcement connected Reignited to the Adventure Guide and a remastered early-game journey. Jagex framed the timing around changes it had made in 2026, including removing Treasure Hunter, reworking systems, and improving the early experience. Those are the company’s stated reasons for proposing a fresh on-ramp, not evidence that the relaunch will succeed or attract a particular number of players.
How was Reignited meant to differ from Veteran characters?
The October 3 announcement described two character types: Reignited, which would start fresh, and Veteran, which refers to the existing character community. The proposed separation applied mainly to progression and shared economic or combat spaces; some social contact was still intended.
#1 Best Overall
| Area | Reignited characters | Veteran characters | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Progression and hiscores | A fresh start with a separate economy and hiscores. | Existing progress and the Veteran environment. | As described in Jagex’s October 3 announcement; under review after October 6. |
| Trading and Grand Exchange | Trading and Grand Exchange use were to be separated from Veteran characters. | Trading and Grand Exchange use were to remain within the Veteran environment. | Original plan; not confirmed as final after Jagex began reviewing it. |
| Boss instances | Shared boss instances with Veteran characters were to be separated. | Shared boss instances with Reignited characters were to be separated. | Original plan; not confirmed as final after Jagex began reviewing it. |
| Social spaces | Characters could encounter Veteran characters and join clans and homesteads. | Characters could encounter Reignited characters and join clans and homesteads. | Described in the October 3 announcement and the October 4 PC Gamer explainer; the extent of any revised interaction was unresolved at the latest update. |
| Worlds | Reignited-only worlds were planned. | Veteran characters would remain in the existing character environment. | Original plan, subject to review. |
| Membership | The original plan included ten days of access to members’ content and indicated separate membership would be required thereafter. | Existing membership arrangements. | Jagex said it was considering membership options on October 6; do not treat separate membership as final. |
| Recognition of past achievements | Not applicable to a fresh-start character as originally described. | Existing players raised concerns that their progress would not be recognized; Jagex said it was exploring ways to recognize Veteran progress. | Revision under consideration, with no final proposal stated in the October 6 update. |
The table reflects the plan as announced, not a final specification. Jagex’s October 6 update said it was considering substantial changes to address the separation and recognition concerns.
Why did Jagex call it a relaunch?
Jagex’s creative director, Ryan Philpott, described Reignited as “an opportunity to relaunch RuneScape.” In a GamesRadar interview published October 5, 2026, he said the team believed this was the right time to show players the game again after removing features he called “egregious.” That is Philpott’s confidence in the project, not an independent measure of its prospects.
Why did existing players object?
In its October 6 statement, Jagex acknowledged that some existing players felt they were no longer the focus. The company identified several concerns:
Rank #2
- Incredibly detailed 4” scale figure based on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim
- Figures feature 6 points of articulation for maximum play value
- The figure includes 1 of 4 pieces that when combined with the rest of the The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim builda line will assemble a Snow Troll
- Includes Hera's sword and cloth cape
- Hera as featured in THE LORD OF THE RINGS: WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM
- Veteran worlds could lose population as players moved to the new start.
- Separate systems could fragment a playerbase players already viewed as small.
- Veteran progress might not receive meaningful recognition.
- Restrictions between character types could limit interaction.
- A separate membership requirement could make trying Reignited less appealing.
These objections were not simply about whether a fresh start sounds attractive. They concern how a new progression track might affect the people and social structures already in the game. A separate economy can support a clean start, while also limiting trade and shared play; the design challenge is balancing those goals without making either group feel isolated.

As of Jagex’s October 6 update, the company had not published a final revised design. It said it was preparing proposals, exploring ways to recognize Veteran progress and avoid a hard community split, and considering membership options. It planned to put proposals to players by the end of that week. The review means the October 3 rules should be read as the original announcement, not as the definitive version.
The original announcement named December 2, 2026 as the launch date and offered Reignited characters ten days of access to members’ content. The October 6 statement did not confirm whether the date or those launch terms would change. Accordingly, December 2 is the announced date, while the final rules and membership arrangement remained unresolved in the latest cited update.
