Yes—you can run encoder processes for multiple 24/7 YouTube channels from one Contabo VPS, but neither Contabo nor YouTube guarantees a specific number of simultaneous streams per server. The practical limit depends on your YouTube account limits, the VPS’s shared CPU and memory, aggregate upload bitrate, and whether you are transcoding or simply forwarding prepared video. Measure your real workload and scale gradually rather than buying a plan based on an assumed channels-per-VPS figure.
What sets the limit: YouTube and the VPS
YouTube’s account-level caps
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says channels must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. It currently permits up to 10 active streams per channel and up to three active streams per stream key; both limits apply. These are platform limits, not a recommendation or guarantee that one VPS can sustain that many streams. Check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and limits and the account’s Live Control Room before configuring multiple outputs, because platform rules and account features can change.

Contabo’s shared resources
Contabo documents its VPS instances as KVM-based virtual servers with fixed RAM and shared vCPUs. Its Core, Performance and Storage VPS families differ in CPU generation, storage and network port speed. For example, published Core VPS listings range from four to 18 vCPUs and 200 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s ports; those specifications are volatile, so check the current Contabo VPS documentation before choosing a plan. A vCPU count is not a promise of dedicated physical cores.
Contabo says VPS plans have no default bandwidth limit, but fair-use terms still apply: exceptionally high or disruptive use may be throttled at its discretion, and port speeds vary by product. “Unlimited traffic” therefore does not guarantee a particular sustained throughput or uptime. Estimate capacity from your actual streams
There is no reliable universal channel count for a VPS. Two configurations with the same stream count may have very different demands: a server forwarding already encoded media has a different CPU workload from one decoding, resizing or re-encoding each feed.
- Record each output’s settings. For every channel, note resolution, frame rate, video codec, target video bitrate, audio bitrate, and whether the source is already encoded.
- Estimate outbound demand. Add the video and audio bitrates for all simultaneous outputs. Compare the total with the selected plan’s published port speed, allowing operational headroom for protocol overhead, bursts, reconnect attempts and unrelated server traffic. A port-speed figure is not a promise of a particular sustained stream count.
- Measure the relevant media path. Test the actual encoder and files. Transcoding can add substantial CPU work; remuxing or forwarding an already encoded feed is a different workload, not proof that transcoding will fit.
- Increase concurrency gradually. Begin with one stream, monitor CPU, memory and network use, then add outputs in stages. Check stability over realistic long runs, including reconnects, rather than relying on a short launch test.
- Include unattended-operation overhead. Confirm that source files remain available, processes restart as intended, logs do not grow without control, and the host has adequate disk space. Shared vCPUs can behave differently under changing host load, so leave headroom.
This is a practical sizing method, not a vendor-validated per-stream guarantee from Contabo or YouTube.

Configure each YouTube output securely
YouTube supports encoder-based live streaming. For each intended output, use the server URL and stream key provided through YouTube’s encoder setup workflow. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and confirm the destination channel and stream in Live Control Room before going live.
- Keep each stream key secret. Do not expose it in screenshots, shell history, logs or public repositories.
- Use a controlled configuration record for each output, and do not assume one key can be used for unlimited simultaneous feeds; YouTube currently limits a key to three active streams.
- If a key is exposed, reset it through YouTube Studio and update the relevant encoder configuration.
- Test each stream’s start, interruption and reconnect behavior before depending on it unattended.
Copyright and monetization still apply to 24/7 streams
Automation, continuous playback and operating several channels do not guarantee monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Its July 15, 2025 clarification renamed the former repetitious-content rule “inauthentic content” and covers repetitive or mass-produced material. Content with little variation, minimal commentary or little educational value may be ineligible; channel reviewers can consider videos, titles, descriptions and the channel as a whole. YouTube also evaluates reused content at channel level. Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies.

Rights matter for both the live broadcast and any archived version. YouTube’s livestream terms require content to comply with Community Guidelines and say creators represent that they hold the necessary rights to use the live content on Google services, including music licensing rights. Clear the video, music, images and other media for the intended livestream and archive—not just for local playback. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and check applicable laws.
