- Annual excess: PetFlex lets applicants customise the excess. The amount you choose can affect what you pay yourself when making claims; confirm how the excess is applied in the PDS and quote.
The insurer says PetFlex has no sub-limits. It defines a sub-limit as a maximum payable for a specific treatment or condition. Read the policy wording to understand the overall annual limit, exclusions and any other conditions that may still restrict a claim.
What does PetFlex cover, and which benefits are optional?
The official FAQ says policies include illness, injury, essential euthanasia and emergency boarding. It also distinguishes dental injuries from dental illness: dental injuries are covered, while dental illness cover can be added to PetFlex. Routine care is not automatic; it is an optional extra. The FAQ describes it as one annual vet visit for specified routine care, reimbursed up to the selected benefit percentage.

How do PetFlex claims work?
The insurer describes two claim routes. A vet registered for Direct2Vet can submit a claim on your behalf. If the claim is approved, the insurer pays the covered portion directly to the vet and you pay the uncovered costs. Alternatively, you can submit an online claim with the invoice and supporting documents; reimbursement follows assessment and approval. The insurer says pre-approval before treatment is not required. These process descriptions do not establish a typical approval time or guarantee that a claim will be accepted.

Who underwrites RSPCA PetFlex?
RSPCA itself is not the underwriter. The RSPCA Pet Insurance FAQ says Pacific International Insurance became the underwriter from April 2026. The product page identifies Pacific as issuer, arranger and administrator, and RSPCA Pet Insurance Pty Ltd as Pacific’s authorised representative for promotion and distribution. The insurer describes RSPCA Pet Insurance as a strategic partnership with Pacific and says policy contributions support RSPCA animal-welfare initiatives. The official material reviewed does not specify a contribution amount or formula.

How much does RSPCA PetFlex cost?
There is no universally representative PetFlex price established by the official information reviewed. The FAQ says premiums depend on your pet’s age, breed, claims history, location and selected cover settings, and may change at annual renewal. Get a current quote for your pet rather than relying on a general estimate.
For a meaningful comparison, line up each policy’s annual limit, benefit percentage, excess, optional benefits, exclusions, waiting periods and renewal conditions. A lower quoted premium alone does not show which policy offers better value.

Can existing customers switch to PetFlex without new waiting periods?
The official switching page says eligible current RSPCA Pet Insurance policyholders who provide their Certificate of Insurance may be able to transition without new exclusion periods for new illnesses and injuries. It also says they may retain cover for previously claimed conditions up to existing limits. These are conditions for a specific transition route, not a promise for new customers; check eligibility and the terms that apply to your policy.
What should you check before choosing PetFlex?
- Confirm the annual limit, benefit percentage and excess in your personalised quote.
- Decide whether you need optional dental illness, routine care, behavioural-condition or supportive-therapy cover, and check each option’s definitions and restrictions.
- Read the current PDS for exclusions, waiting periods, limits and claim requirements; use the Certificate of Insurance to confirm your actual cover.
- Compare renewal conditions as well as the initial premium, since premiums may change at annual renewal.
- If you are an existing policyholder switching, confirm the transition conditions directly rather than assuming they apply to a new policy.
Because product features and insurer arrangements can change, confirm the current terms with the official PetFlex comparison page, your quote and policy documents before buying.
