Check whether your exact game works in RPCS3
Do this before choosing RPCS3 or buying hardware for a particular game. The project organizes compatibility records by Game ID and media, so a disc release and a digital release of the same title may have separate entries. Match the entry to the copy you intend to play, rather than relying only on the game’s display name.

What setup does RPCS3 involve?
Emulation takes more than installing a program. RPCS3’s FAQ directs new users to its Quickstart Guide for setup. Follow that guide for current instructions rather than treating an older FAQ’s system requirements as up-to-date buying advice: the FAQ text is dated 2020 and says requirements may change.
If you already have a computer, verify current requirements and the game’s compatibility notes before committing to RPCS3. If you do not want to install, configure or troubleshoot emulator software, an original PS3 offers a more direct console route.

Choose RPCS3 if your PC and game are a good match
- Your exact game release has a favorable, current compatibility entry.
- You are comfortable following the project’s setup guidance and checking game-specific notes.
- You want to play on a computer and are willing to verify that your system meets current requirements.
Choose an original PS3 if you prefer console hardware
- You want to play on a dedicated PlayStation 3 rather than configure an emulator.
- You can confirm that the particular console and game meet your needs.
- You are considering a used console and can check its model, condition and relevant game compatibility before buying.

- Start with the game. For RPCS3, confirm the Game ID, media and current compatibility notes. For console play, verify the requirements for the particular PS3 model and game.
- Check the setup you would actually use. For RPCS3, consult the current Quickstart Guide and requirements. For an original PS3, assess the specific console rather than assuming all models are interchangeable.
