Rockstar Games Launcher problems usually fall into one of four groups: Rockstar service or internet connection trouble, a sign-in error, a Windows permission or security conflict, or damaged game files. Check service status first, note the exact error, then follow the matching fix below. No single step applies to every failure.
Start by identifying where the failure occurs
Write down the exact message and any error number, and note when it appears. Does the launcher fail to open, open but reject your sign-in, or sign in successfully but fail to start one game? Also note whether the problem affects one game or everything in the launcher. Rockstar recommends capturing the error message when seeking help (Rockstar Support).

Check Rockstar services and your internet connection
First check Rockstar’s current service status and confirm that other internet services work on your PC. If Rockstar services are reported as Up, that does not rule out a local connection-type conflict or another network configuration problem. Service status can change, so check it when the error occurs (Rockstar service status).

These are Rockstar’s troubleshooting figures, not a guarantee that meeting them will fix a launcher problem. If Wi-Fi remains troublesome, Rockstar recommends trying a wired connection. An Ethernet cable is relevant only as a way to test that connection; it will not resolve a service outage or an unrelated sign-in or file problem. See Rockstar’s connection troubleshooting guidance.

Rockstar also lists UDP ports 6672, 61455, 61456, 61457, and 61458, and provides DNS configuration and router restart steps. Treat port or DNS changes as advanced troubleshooting, not a first response: change network settings only when you have a clear reason and can restore the original configuration. Rockstar’s instructions also describe unplugging the router for about 10 minutes before restarting the launcher (Rockstar connection guidance).
Choose a fix based on the error
Error 6000.87
Rockstar describes error 6000.87 as a connection issue between your PC and Rockstar Games Services. Check service status first; if services are unavailable, wait and try again when they return. If they are Up, refresh the locally stored launcher profile:

- Open Rockstar Games Launcher and select Settings.
- Choose Account Information, then Delete local profile.
- Confirm, then sign in again when prompted.
This removes locally stored profile details and requires a fresh sign-in; Rockstar says it does not delete your account or saved games. Follow the official steps in Rockstar’s error 6000.87 guidance.

“We could not create a sign in token”
Rockstar says an antivirus conflict causes this error in most cases. On Windows 10 or Windows 11, its documented fix is to add the Rockstar Games Launcher installation folder to Windows Defender’s exclusions. Use the instructions for your installed Windows version, and do not broadly disable security protection as a substitute. “Failed to connect to the Rockstar Games Library Service”
Rockstar identifies network problems and file permissions as possible reasons the launcher cannot update. Check your connection and Rockstar service status, then try starting the launcher with administrator privileges: right-click its shortcut and select Run as administrator.
Rockstar’s instructions also describe temporarily turning off Windows Security real-time protection, restarting the launcher, and then turning protection back on. If you use this specific troubleshooting step, restore protection immediately after the restart; do not leave it off. For a persistent error, Rockstar documents a clean launcher reinstall. A game fails to launch or its files may be damaged
If the launcher opens and the problem is limited to a particular installed game, use its integrity check:
- Sign in to Rockstar Games Launcher.
- Open Settings and select the affected installed game.
- Under Verify game file integrity, choose Verify Integrity.
Rockstar says verification can resolve several kinds of issues and update the game’s supporting files. It is a targeted step for game-file or launch problems, not a general fix for service outages or sign-in failures (Rockstar’s file-verification instructions).

When offline play can—and cannot—help
Rockstar says Story Mode generally does not require an internet connection, but some games or modes need internet for activation or gameplay. Cloud synchronization and bringing game files up to date may also require a connection. Offline play is therefore conditional, not a reliable way to bypass every launcher sign-in failure (Rockstar’s offline play guidance, last updated May 1, 2024).
For error 6000.87 specifically, Rockstar says offline fallback depends on having signed in on that same machine while online, with Remember Me enabled, when services were available. Without that prior setup, offline access is not established as a workaround for the error (Rockstar’s error 6000.87 guidance).
What to send Rockstar Support if the problem persists
If the matching fixes do not work, include the exact error text or a screenshot and explain whether the launcher opens, whether sign-in succeeds, and whether one game or all launcher activity is affected. For Windows PC troubleshooting, Rockstar lists these diagnostics:
- DXDiag and MSInfo system reports.
- launcher.log, located by default under
DocumentsRockstar GamesLauncher. - prelauncher.log if the launcher will not start.
Send those files through Rockstar Support rather than posting system reports publicly. Rockstar’s support instructions explain how to locate and collect them (Rockstar diagnostic guidance).
